(please no people saying to wait untill im off my p's to get a turbo car)

Yes it MUST be in your name to get the exemption and if you need the factory specs pm me and i'll pass it on. |

I didn't have a s14 however I do have a r32 turbo the way I did it because I couldn't the factory specifications off the internet because they were all different was to buy the car and get it dyno'd then weighed the car at a public weigh bridge it cost $20 to weigh it at some chicken feed place on the way to the coast. Then I sent in both the dyno form and the official weight form as well as a letter from the mechanic stating that that he preformed the dyno and what power it made. I got the exemption within a few days as long as the car is stock or he has an old dyno sheet which will give you a rough figure what power it will make then it should be fine. I'm pretty sure you need to own the car first tho. |

i just read through that whole thing (yea i can read) and it didnt say anywere that you have to own the car first, but it also didnt say that you dont have to,, so im kind of leaning towards you dont have to own it before you apply |

From what others have posted (I'm on a remote desktop so clicking links eats balls) ... it 'appears' that you have to weigh the vehicle, dyno the vehicle and then present the documents to the department of transport... How do you propose to do all of this without first purchasing that vehicle? What documents are you going to submit with your application? |

the guy talking about dynoing and weighing the car is an idiot. firstly, the power is at the motor not at the wheels so I struggle to see what a dyno sheet would prove, unless he removed the motor. secondly, the weight of the vehicle is based off what the manufacter quotes as the heaviest of that model, not what some dodge chicken feed place is saying about a 20year old car. the problem comes when you cant with unknown mods. heck, you could put some lead bricks in the boot and get any car passed. |

Well I must be a complete retard because I just scanned and printed the performance figures page from the owners manual showing the curb weight and power along with the application form. |

You don't have to own the vehicle. Find the manufacturer's specifications online. It doesn't have to be your parents car either. This is an exemption for a non high performance vehicle. You can get it on a car before you buy it. It's not the same thing as getting an exemption for your dad's twin turbo Supra because it's apparently the only vehicle available for you to use.. |

Yeah, I was just wondering how he was lucky enough to get away with anything less than an official spec sheet from Nissan. Definitely don't take the effort of going down this path, chances are next to none of being approved. |

That's so long as you can write down the VIN and engine number before you purchase it if that were the case. Otherwise, you can usually find an online manual for the car showing the specifications. Hell, DTMR would probably accept Wikipedia specs. |

Hell, DTMR would probably accept Wikipedia specs. I've heard of a case where they rejected redbook specs and asked for official specs from Nissan. |

Yup, so get the forms and fill them in, it's that simple. If it asks for a VIN number etc, then go get one off the car you want to buy. If you haven't found a car yet, then wait until you do before you fill it in and apply for the exemption. |

Get in contact with Nissan Australian team, get them to write up a cover letter explaining the factory standards on your vehicle. |

Hmm, someone with suitable IT skills could have fun with that. Especially Sanjeev or Gupta come here from India only knowing how to drive a tuk tuk and being given a B double license. Just knowing how they drive in general is concerning.... Stupid thing is... that we allow foreigners to drive in our country on their overseas licence for 3 months till they are granted a resident visa or granted citizenship. It is only then their Authority to drive is withdrawn and required to obtain a Australian licence to continue to drive on our roads. If they don't obtain resident visa or citizenship, they can drive here on their overseas licence for how long they want.... They still obide by the classes and conditions on their licence.... providing the Police can interpret what they can drive and if they have their international driving permit.... Meanwhile, they have already crashed 10 cars, and on their 11th Camry |

You have to admit, those Camrys are f'king tough cars. Amazing how much punishment they can take. hahaha.. exactly... they are the main car you see in Saudi Arabia going 180km down the main drag then rip into 360 spins.. mate had one.. Never died. Had hole in the radiator. One of my mates wasnt quick enough to close his door before he started reversing, got caught on a pole and folded backwards. And suprisingly felt quite comfortable going over 200km haha.. The Toyota of Terror. |

You should be able to get an exception now, the laws have recently changed and you can now have 130KW per ton so there is a lot of exempt cars now, or you can always get a Austech s15 Australian delivered non turbo, there's other P Plate forums on the internet better suited to answering your questions |
