Yeah Microsoft pricing glitch where it was going through for free, I paid nothing for it and still felt slightly ripped off for the time spent downloading it. Got boring after like.. 30 minutes.

Got it off of eBay user 'aussie_cheapest_laptop'.

I got the cheapest version of it available that had nVidia GTX670M (some models have the 660) which set me back $1,399, came with a 7200rpm 750gig drive which I am using as a second drive after installing my 120gig SSD.

There's a list of options on the right hand side. Where you can donate money to fund the project. You'll need an Amazon account however.

Isn't that simply a donation?

*EDIT* Never mind, I clicked it then saw the options for 'rewards'

Yeah. Just look for the 'Back This Project' button and then select the reward amount.

Be careful. Some items and U.S. only based (power requirements, shipping etc) so just be careful.

Also, as with anything on Kickstarter, the whole thing could fall through and they could take your money and run.

You don't actually pay for anything until the product / item is ready to be shipped.

The 'Back This Project' is just that you're showing interest. If towards the end of the project you decide not to contribute, then that's okay as well. There is a Terms of Use which Projects have to agree to before it will take place. Failure to do so can result in legal action.

But considering it's a community funded project, there is some degree of 'personal responsibility' to investigate who you're backing.

There have been shitloads of failed/scam projects on Kickstarter, and none have had any legal action initiated.

I'm not saying that it doesn't happen. However, the majority of the failed projects occur in the Games part of it, because the physically can't show anything for it.

Industrial / product design projects which actually have a prototype and various design variations etc are the better ones to back. Purely because they have something to show for it. The vast majority of the projects or kickstarter are hipster projects. Books, paintings, poems, theater productions, they are ones which to avoid.

Some on the high priced ones; 3D printers, Android powered game consoles, 3D Reality systems, etc. Should be handled with a depth of skepticism as well.

Probably one the main reasons why failed ones never get pursued is because, financially, it's not worth it. 100 people backing a $1,500 project? You're going to hire a lawyer to pursue something that you backed for a measly $5 or $10? Hardly seems worth it don't you think?

The Pebble watch is a crowdsourcing success story.

At least, it will be if it can live up to the demand.

Set of MACE manifold insulators for the wagon.

Just gotta get a set of plugs and water inlet seals, and do the whole lot at once while I've got the plenum off.
