It's funny. I was standing at a shell servo here in Cairns and there was this American family(the dad was paying for petrol).

So it was December 31st 2012 and it was approximately 1pm. The attendant served the gentleman asking where he was from etc etc. He had stated that he was heading south to Sydney to see the NYE fireworks. Now, at the time for some reason i thought i had been in Brisbane(idiot) and i looked at my watch and thought to myself "yeah he might make it if they don't take the scenic route".

I feel like such an bastard because i wasn't in the right frame of mind to inform him that it takes a little longer that 10 hours to get from Cairns to Sydney by road. About 20 hours longer if you follow the speed signs and road works etc etc....

Well it doesn't take a genius to look at a map and have a rough idea how long it would take. So it's his fault in the worst place. Silly yank.

Who the hell drives from cairns to sydney to see fireworks. Not to mention you after seeing people staking out spots for the brisbane fireworks from 5am I dont think you would get anywhere near the sydney ones.
