    Really?? You can't be serious. That's like asking why people buy and modify commodores or falcons. A 3.5L v6 magna will out accelerate and corner better than the same year model falcon or commodore.......

    I don't understand why more people don't dunno.gif they are reliable, quick out of the box and sh!t all over VT/AU ADM cars of the came caliber (IMO anyways)
    So what they are FWD, its not like every single person who owns a commo uses it for skids, its just a 'yeah got a rwd car' macho thing.

    Having never driven one I wouldn't know, but now I'm interested.
    Either way it would be hard to find one cleaner then this one.

    Thanks for the kind words guys smile.gif I echo all the sentiments above.. Its not a family rig, and I don't tow, so a FWD sedan suits my needs fine, and you don't see too many modified Magnas about (in comparison to Falcons and Commodores)
    Took the Magna for a hill run today with some fellow Magna and 380 drivers - the lowered springs have transformed the ride dramatically! It handled the twists and turns of Dayboro and Mt. Mee with ease, though it did highlight the fact that my brakes have seen better days.. Time to think about new brake pads, I was thinking QFM HPX pads.

    If you wana get more out of it look at doing a ralliart engine conversion, 175fwkw from factory thumbsup.gif

    Also, don't be too caught up with brand name brake pads if your not racing, not really a need to spend lots more $ anyways when OEM or aftermarket cheapies are ok

    I'd rather go the 3.8L 6G75 conversion for similar money, they go pretty hard in the Magnas when tuned right, with a lazy 160kW off the bat with plenty of potential for more ph34r.gif

    I agree about the brake pads, I mentioned QFM as they are widely recommended by other Magna and 380 enthusiasts as being a great all-rounder pad, I have used RDA Extreme and EBC Greenstuff in the past also, I was pleasantly surprised with the RDAs, less so with the EBCs (too harsh on the rotors and dusty as hell)

    My old man used to have a 380 VRX (5spd tiptronic) It wasn't a bad engine, used stupid amounts of fuel lol, I'll have a check but I'm pretty sure it was ~175kW out of the box? Went nicely anyways, they make good power with basic mods as they are restricted allot by the exhaust and emissions unfortunately.

    Replaced the front and rear seats and door card inserts with TJ2 VRX items, and refitted the original black window switch, console and centre facia trims.
    I am quite liking the two-toned grey setup (darker seats/door card inserts vs. light carpet, hoodlining, and lower dash/door cards) it ties in with the steering wheel scheme and keeps the interior light IMO

    Its been a while since I updated, since the last post I have fitted my front component speakers and 6x9s in the rear. No amp yet, but I have one to be fitted, a Cadence ZRS C9.
    I also hit a pretty nasty pothole after the floods up here in January, buckling my 18s. I have since replaced them with a set of 18x7s off an Outlander, with Federal Formoza FD2 rubber.

    Looks nice.

    For brakes look at doing a 380 front brake conversion, and yes the QFM pads are good HPX for street, A1RM for more serious stuff.

    6g75 engine is the way to go (for others the 160kw vodevil mentioned is at the wheels, add some devent cams and 180 +@ wheels is easily achievable in a very street able package. Will get high 13's if you get enough traction).

    Thanks Brett, its the next major step, engine-wise, I want to take when the 74 gives up the ghost. Though, at 220k I think its got a bit of life yet! laugh.gif
    Definitely the logical step to take for anyone with a Magna wanting to get substantial performance gains.

    Engine flushed with Liqui-Moly Engine Detox, Refilled with Castrol Edge Titanium 5w40, ACDelco oil filter and Wynns Engine Treatment & Oil Stabiliser; and Caltex Techron 5000 fuel additive added to the tank.

    Thanks mate, I agree smile.gif 222,000km and the only major problem I have had is the plastic heater core pipes snapping (dash out job), otherwise I can't really complain in the reliability stakes! The paint lets it down a bit (roof, boot and bonnet are prime examples of Mitsubishi's sub-par paint methods at the time)
    Best part is, coppers - for the most part - don't take a second glance at it biggrin.gif

    Step into my office, won't you?









    Bought a Garmin today, which I wired down through the unused tweeter pod in the dash, under the steering column and through the back of the centre stack to hide as much of the wiring as possible (when unused, the wire to the unit clips to the A-pillar).
    To save battery life and minimise the visible wiring of the Blackvue, Garmin and phone charger, I am running them off a multi-socket/USB extension, plugged into the Power Magic Pro, originally used for the Blackvue, fitted under the centre console (see the Blackvue install a couple posts up). The iPod runs directly off the head unit, obviously, this wiring is also hidden under the centre console.

    I had purchased a TF Sports cluster as an upgrade from my standard one, but after fitting it and noticing that the fuel gauge was 1/8 off and the temperature gauge similarly inaccurate, I decided to improvise..
    After removing the speedometer, fuel and temperature gauges from the TJ cluster; fitting them to the TF cluster and swapping the yellow needles for red, the cluster now functions properly along with having the correct odometer reading for the car...

    Looking good bloke, my parents always had manual versions and I loved them, great speed and reliability for what they are. The mods are coming along nicely too, who gives a shit if others dont like it, if it makes you smile then it'd be rude not to keep goin!

    All nicely done, Outlander wheels look factory sports fit, good choice. Most people dismiss the old Mitsi Maggot, but for the money, they go well, fuel is better than falc/comm/camry and with the handling and braking mods you have done, it would be a nice car to drive. I really like the workmanship with fitting the gadgets, too common that people butcher things to make them fit

    Thanks for the kind words mate, I'm try to keep it looking as OEM-like as possible, inside and out. It does handle quite well, but I am considering fitting King Low SP springs when I replace my struts (Selby all round). At its current height, my driveway and exhaust are forever at loggerheads - so I am considering raising it from its approx 45mm below stock height to 30mm below stock height with the King SPs.

    Its been some time since I last updated, not a lot to report aside from fitting KIng Low SP springs and Selby shocks all round. It now sits at about 30mm lower than stock and rides a lot nicer (and can now traverse my driveway).

    Been a while since I last updated, not a lot has changed except for a swap from Pedders Lows to King Low SP springs all round (along with new Selby shocks all round and front strut mounts)






    This happened...




    Finally got around to fitting the Eclipse AVN827GA DVD/USB/iPod/Bluetooth Navigation unit I had sitting in a box for six months.
    It was originally a Subaru factory accessory unit with a factory Subaru wiring harness which I customised, along with an Aerpro Magna->universal harness, to get USB/iPod/Bluetooth and some mobile phone and navigation capabilities.
    I need to do further work to get full GPS/DVD functionality (grounding handbrake signal wires, etc.), but I am happy with the improvements in iPod control, AM radio and mobile phone calling. (My old Eclipse CD5030 unit - though it was a great stereo - only tuned in 10kHz increments (USA stations), not 9kHz; and the iPod interface left a lot to be desired).

    Also fitted a centre fascia and and lower pocket from a TL ES. It matches the silver in the TF Sports cluster and VRX LE wheel quite well, I'm happy with the result smile.gif
