Steel reverse cowl bonnet scoop for HQ. Got done by fatals.. Need to cover my air filter. Can cut it in, but need to know who I can get one off. Gotta be steel and not fibreglass.

Did they throw the line in that " if you hit a pedestrian you could cut them?"

still won't be legal if it allows any fluids to travel backward onto the windscreen.

Cops and tmr don't worry about that. You would be more worried about the 1.5t + car hitting you than some air cleaner. Nice to know the cops are killing the car scene with their antics.

After many hours scouring the net and countless phone calls we got in touch with superformance at Capalaba and they are able to help us.. There are so many places out there that do the fibreglass ones, but the cops specifically told us that the scoop had to be made out of the same material as the bonnet, so it has to be made of steel.. Thanks to old mate who recommended Superformance to us.. Cheers

We need a steel one as the cops stipulated that it had to be made from the same material as the bonnet, so it has to be steel.

I have to call B.S. on the cops determination of "must be the same material as the bonnet" and "no rearward facing, due to the chance of fluids hitting the windscreen". The second one has some validity in a practical sense.

but if they use this as a criteria to fine you or defect you, how does it stand for cars that were produced this way?, A9X toranas, XC cobras, HDT commodores with the "cold air intake" option, L88 corvettes, SS camaros etc.

I used to have all the information on production options, heights etc adr's etc when I had a almost stock, legally modified within the qld transport rules, L34 Torana, just to show the minority of ignorant tools that passed themselves off as Police officers. 95% were all ok, they were into cars, they just wanted to have a look and a chat, the 5% soon found why they always got poor reviews.....................

If you read in the DOT hand book it does state it has to be made of the same material as the bonnet a technicality yes but a very legitmate one.... other option is a fibre glass bonnet with steel reinforcing if you want to get to pushing the point

Mmmm, ok another reinvention of the wheel, Ta DOT, there must be a clause "unless fitted as an available option at the time of manufacture", that really does make it tough on the guys with classics, it would take some skillfull crafting to fit a metal scoop to a HQ bonnet, that is a big bit of real estate.

I wonder what the legality of the HDT cold air trays is?, all under bonnet, I guess as long as PCV plumbed it, it should all be ok?
