Hi guys

Need some advice, ive never come across this before :S looking under my bonnet ive pulled some part numbers on things that i might wanna change just seeing if there good or not, and i came across my engine torque damper, did a bit of googling and it looks like the previous owner has used a motorcycle steering damper as an engine torque damper :S Ive never come across this has anyone else? is this really normal or should i change to a proper damper XD tbh it worked well but there was still a fair bit of "twist" when i gave the car some.

Here is a pick of the damper:

cheers guys

Ive updated the post so the pic pops up

anyone else have thoughts?

Someone said that its aparrently a common thing for silvias because its a good fit.

dont know how well it works compared to a normal engine torque damper though

Engine Dampers are not essentially the best thing for your car anyway, it moves the stress from one point to another and some are held onto weaker points of the motor, aka fixed to the intake in some cars ect.

Ive personally found very little gain in using them.

but each to their own.

Waste of time/money imo. More of a trinkett.

If your really worried about twist, get some stiffer engine mounts.

the mounts are pretty stiff already XD the engine feels like its making some fairly big numbers (havnt dyno'd it yet)

the car came with it on there, i wouldnt have bothered putting one on in the first place tho XD

A damper isnt meant to hold it solid.... It will still move. The damper is for vibration, not for engine twist. Same as a shock absorber or steering damper - they allow steady solid movement, while restricting short sharp quick movement back and forth. Id say it is doing exactly what it is meant to be doing. Id just leave it.

I would be more concerned about the unsecured pod filter.

Dont worry that thing aint moving anywhere thumbsup.gif

Held down by a 5mm thick bracket and 2x12mm bolts

the look on the officers face is priceless when he goes "that pod filter is a defect as its not secure" *attempts to shake the pod filter assembly while sweatting bullets and going red in the face....* "Never mind.." rolleyes.gif
