does anybody know if there is a way to test the oil seals on a turbo that isnt bolted to a car?

Alrighty- early new year we have some work going on the cressida.
New manifold with egt fittings. Also looking at heat proof
gate off the turbo housing
4" dump then 3.5 cat back
3" intercooler piping intake side.

Then hope for a quick adjust and winde this boost up. Should be good.

I can't decide weather I want to build mine more toward a setup like yours or somthing more responsive with a gt3540 or something like that
also what are you using to control your auto?

yeh i use my own control for auto, you will find it on toymods costs less than $10. also let me know if your going to rebuild your engine i keep rings, bearings, gaskets, seals, timing kits, waterpumps an so on in stock for 1jz

if you want better response than mine use one of these would work good with around a 3500rpm convertor

do you have a shop or somthing??
what cost would i be looking at for all the rings, gaskets and bearings and seals to rebuild my 1jz??
I have a good water pump and timing belt kit on the 1 thats in my cressida at the moment (only changed it 10k km ago if that) so won't need those

cheers

selling parts is what i do during work hours thumbsup.gif building cars is what i do after hours. it really comes down to what you want to spend and really if you want to spend the extra to build one or just replace with another motor. i also keep a couple of 1jz engines and gearboxes in stock.
off the top of my head your looking at around $350-400 just for rings and bearings, front and rear crank seal your looking at about $60, i use genuine head gaskets at around $140, tappet cover gaskets around $80 for the set, intake and exhaust gaskets i just reuse as they are steel factory (can still get if yours are buggered) valve stem seals $60 other than that every thing else is sealed with orings or silastic from factory.

i believe that you bought your car off matt? if so ive done a gearbox change on it before, i did none of the dodgy work but

blackers10
Post #1896

yeah its that one matt had,
if you know ANY of the history on it id be delighted to know... it is/was definitely not a pretty conversion...
does it have a mechanical shift kit in the auto or?? as it takes its time to change gears but when it does it shifts firmly??

thanks for the prices, I will let you know when I get my shit together and work out what direction I am going with the motor

car originally was a 7mgte, a mate of mine from the gold cost bought it and fitted the 1jz (not very well) he didnt like spending money, then he swapped matt for an r32 4 door skyline. matt changed to the single turbo and we changed gearbox and started to tidy a few things up but never got very far. we did something with the gearbox just cant remember what, its still standard clutches i think but im not sure if we did valve body or just shimmed the accumulators. it was after my work christmas party that we changed the gearbox and i was very drunk so details are vage. it may even have my old 3000rpm convertor in it?

oh yeah cool, it has a 3k converter matt said, cant confirm exactly as the tacho doesnt work:S
looks like it has had a booster before but i wired mine in as it was all busted and 1/2 missing and it wouldn't work.. then i had the current issue of the oil pouring out hte exhaust which im not sure if its the turbo or the rings etc, so far i have unbolted the turbo and it feels ok(Spins freely and no shaft play or oil all through it

do you have any idea why they cut the rad support panel??

that was done before either of them had it, makes it easier to get engine and gear box out as one is why id say it was done

My boss leant me his Cressida while my car was being serviced. His parents had it since brand new, its got a cracked head now and needs a service every few months (something they put through it, no idea what)

I know its a horribly old car, but apart from the above problem, it runs like a dream. Is this a common problem with them? He just doesnt want to get rid of it due to it being passed down the family tree.

Cressida, mx83, cracked head = common as anything! I swear they came from factory with cracked heads. Might as well 1J it and save urself the head ache and $ in the long run. smile.gif

Looks like I'll have to get another mx73 up there in the list I reckon. Pretty sure when I was out there last i did a 13.2. had a fair few issues going on, including a shit nearly 3 sec 60ft.
May cruise out to a test and tune to see how its going at the moment as an indication just to be included on the list.
If I did a 13.2 last time i was out, to how its travelling now, i definitely have a high 12 in it for sure.

Makes me more determine to get this boost cranking to where I want it. bring on leggin it eleven's

Took awhile aha. Wa 5 outings and 12 runs down the quarter to get that. I'm happy with it for manual. Its a daily so I don't want it any quicker, its perfect now.

So you were using streets? What your engine specs?
