While we're on the topic of hot rod stuff thanks to no more holdens, heres a little something from me.

I scored this american made "Yankee" early 1940s foglight on ebay over the weekend. Its fucking awesome if you ask me. I just think its so damn neat, and since i'm going for a 1948 Southern California look for my roadster.. i thought a fog light would be cool since a very large majority of californians ran them on their hot rods, and they all only ever ran one on the drivers side.

So this arvo i thought it'd be neat to knock up a fog light stand. I started with one of my original Model A headlight bars. This was my worse of the two, and i'm using the other for my headlights.

This was one end of it that i started with.. Now as you go further along you might be thinking to yourself "It doesn't look like he's done anything with it other than make it look more pretty and cut it off from the rest of the bar.." well thats not quite right, the picture doesn't show the angle that it starts at or that the headlight cup is not centered on the bar, but completely to one side.

I had to cut it into three pieces, so i could put it back together all facing the same direction so it'd work for my application. These are the parts all sanded up and ready to tack together.

This is it all together. After i test fit it, i found that i'll need to move the top cup forwards and down so that the bottom nut can be done up completely. I've never built one of these babies before, so i just put it where i thought it looked good. It will take a second to cut and move it and retack it, so no dramas there.

Here is the fog light mounted in the stand.

And just another angle..

I'm still not sure if i should mig weld it, and sand the welds to appear as if it is all one peice.. or TIG weld it and leave the welds visible.. don't know yet.. I'm leaning towards option one as they didn't have tig welders back in the fourties.

Lol if you get the $40 and one point fine for 'dazzling' other road users. laugh.gif

"But officer, they came with them from factory and the stock headlights just aren't that good!"

Eh, i think they'd be more interested in looking at the car than its obscure fog light hanging off the front laugh.gif

I already drive the kingswood with high beams on the whole way down mt cotton road as it is, they aren't any better than normal beams on new cars. I'll drive the roadster with the fog light on on roads like that for my sake, not theirs tongue.gif

Haha, I got those phillips + 100% or some bullshit bulbs for when I worked out in Jacobs well and regulary drove through the cane fields after dark. Worked really well for the old kinger. Maybe retro fit some HID's to your car. A guy at work has a KE70 and fitted them and they are legal as its older than 85 or some shit. Sounded legit at the time haha.

Are they the blue ones? I've seen them before.

As far as the roadster goes, nah i want all old stuff on it. Will convert it to 12v but they will still be old style bulbs and all that jazz. Can't have something that looks right out of 1948 with fucking blue LED headlights now can we mamoru.gif

Deadsled, i hope you used an authentic welder from the 1940's... Otherwise your car won't be classified as a Hotrod.

Ben theres a place off Queens Rd in the industrial estate there called Metal Prep. They i'm pretty sure use whatever the pink media is. I had my Chev and Model A chassis' blasted there and they do a good job and very quick turnaround, same day i'm pretty sure they were or the next day. Also well priced, and do cashy jobs too if you say will you do it cheaper for cash.

Blah blah blah. I'm not using a stick welder, fucking hate that shit.. And i don't really feel oxy welding chassis rails is a particularly good idea.

Most of my stuff will be tig welded, and all the visible stuff will be metal finished to appear one piece anyway so suck on that laugh.gif

If you're prepared to wait for a container then thats all well and done. But still make sure your order is under $1000 or you'll get stung 10%.

Normal UPS freight isn't that expensive really, and it only takes around 5-10 days.

74QEE
Post #1714

I painted a pair of chrome valve cover the other day, i scuffed them up with a scotch brite pad and just put some normal spraycan primer on them and then coated that with hi temp engine paint and it seemed to stick ok.

Rear rims look so tiny Ash...

Get on summitracing.com and look at rims. If you register they give you a postage cost in the shopping cart before you enter credit card details.

But i guess it depends on how much you're getting them for
