Fitted the new worked 202 and rebuilt shift kitted trimatic...all in a couple of hours!!! wasn't this behind a manual? hope you sorted a stall... I also hope you don't expect the same power output as wbtonner had as the different trans will suck the power and if the converter isn't set up for the stupidly large cam he had (no offence wbtonner) you will find it tough going to keep it running. |

I have a brand new 3500 stally, the auto should be the same if not better than the manual who told you that? 6's don't have the same torque as 8's do, they react differently between auto and manual, hope you aren't dissapointed when you get it sorted. I would take WB for a run and see what he thinks when it is done. I seriously hope it works out, but if the converter isn't matched to the cam, gears etc.... well, you know. |

None taken. Everyone said it was too big to be driven on the street Proved them wrong with one of the toughest sounding sixes i've ever heard Question though How much power would a built' 3 speed and big stally suck compared to a 4 speed? Good to see you having fun mate! Hopefully the stally you have is the perfect size. |

The stally came with the gearbox he bought so if it suits then it suits. A few engine builders who have seen the cam specs, help dial the cam in and helped do a tune on it said i'd need to run around a 3500+ stally if I wanted to put an auto behind it. They did say they haven't played with sixes for around 20 years but its what they'd start with then go from there. Were you thinking smaller? |

if it has the wrong converter, it can suck upwards of 30% between engine and rear wheels. |

Ash, flip your jaws around so you can at least butt the back of the material up to something, would hate you to take a cut and it fly out, break tools etc. |

Well Asia's conversion certainly has been interesting. He bought the new engine, we stripped everything off the old one and placed it onto the new one, got it on the box but wouldn't line up with the box at the bottom. Clutch fork had about 2 inches of play and barely engaged without the rod falling off and the motor wouldn't even turn over, either by hand or starter Pulled the motor and box both out this time, pull it apart and have a look and found the problem. Somebody had knocked the original manual spigot bush right in, then installed a auto one on top. With the amount of grease in there we didn't see the second spigot bush until the other one was installed and wasn't letting the bush sit properly in the block and thus not allowing the box to mate properly. Solution? ManLand Customs to the rescue................ After measuring the distance of the old bush vs the new bush we ascertained we just needed to cut the front section of the spigot bush off, the old manual spigot bushes used to sit inside the hole with nothing protruding so essentially we were creating a older spigot bush....... Once this was done, the box slid in like a tourist at a Las Vegas Brothel. So now we are left with this: Although as much as I try to talk Asia into sticking a LS1 in there "to get by" (Standard LS1/Auto $1500) he wants to rock the dirty 202 for a while until he saves a billion dollars to spend on a shitbox. So sometime this week when Asia can be bothered coming over, we will slot this bitch of an engine back in and get her running so Asia can finally register and drive the damn thing. So at this point we have a rolling shell, engine and box on the floor, 7000 bolts and my shed is trashed less than 2 hours after I cleaned it back up lol. Has only been 8 months since he bought it now......... i dont see an asian in any of these pics? are you doing all the work for him? i did something similar for a guy on a couple of occasions and he played the phantom quite reguarly |

Ash, flip your jaws around so you can at least butt the back of the material up to something, would hate you to take a cut and it fly out, break tools etc. as for getting more meat out of the middle, are you using tools which have been made specifically for this job or just a standard cutting tool? if its just a standard cutter turn the toolpost so the cutting tool is paralell to the bed,and go in that about 0.5mm at a time and cut towards the centre. would help if its a diamond shaped bit too. yeah, good idea, thanks Jay. it is a tungsten diamond bit, the tool holder is bulky and hits on the chamfer I am cutting internally when I get to the edge. I need to machine (read grind) some of the toolholder out below the cutting tip to clear my specific needs :-) |
