+1 for normal rubber bushes unless you want every other old part in your car wearing out or falling apart. Trust me. Done it twice. It's not worth the extra harshness.

Plus the Nolathane bushes turn to powder if the car isn't running every day. Over the last 12 months, everytime I move the Torana in the shed I notice a pink powder under it. The bushes just perish and go to shit. Even a few bushes I replaced just before I parked it has perished - it would be lucky to have done 20km road use!

Weird, my Kingswoods upper control arms (the ones you see in the engine bay) are the red type and they seem to be fine after four years. Granted i'm pretty sure they are why my front end sounds like a 100 year old couch because there was no grease on them (have greased now and i think its getting better as the grease gets into them).

Although then again, i drive my car nearly every day and barely have a day that it doesn't get driven.

Mate, when I was driving the Torana about 4 - 5 times a week I had no issue with the nolathane bushes. They lasted for years with no sign of deterioration.
I then only started driving it about once a month, I noticed they were perishing rather fast.
I replaced a few in the rear trailing arms as one pretty much chewed right out after having a few runs at Willowbank on the last Boost Drag Day. I hardly drove it after that, yet those bushes are just about screwed!

Thats about the crust of it
Poly bushes are crap, harsh and have no give at all
This no give goes to other areas, and stuffs something else
Even all the 4x4 boys are now removing poly bushes and goin back to OEM rubber
I bet there cars cop more of a hiding suspension wise than a daily run about

Im still in shock people still buy the stuff
It was rubbish 10-15 years ago

There is one exception, do what myself and jordan are doing and replacing the whole front clip and rear suspension setup.. Then they reccomend the harsh shit.

Had a G60 SWB TROLL with a highly strung 253 in it , so much more fun than the 4 litre six , LOL .
As for price good running 53's can be had for around $600 + and 308's start at around a grand .

Yeah im only looking ya know maybe a few hundred maybe 500 at the most for a 53/08
I mean a good turbo diesel will mince a 53/ and possibly an 08 (depending)
But its cost and parts/engine replacement im looking at
Its for a weekend toy, maybe trailer to cruiser park
Something im not scared to hurt
IF it gets f*cked or rolled , minimal outlay

HSV
Post #1173

There's no way an old school TD will mince an 08 unless a heap of works been done.

I scored a 308 for $300 recently (thanks Warney you fucker biggrin.gif ), they are around just need to look.

Although personally I'd be going the 350 route, been done many a time and heaps of parts available for them

you just need to find someone that hasnt got too much of an idea on what is what (like me) and you will get your self a bargain !

TD might out grunt a 253 but it wont out rev it , and the cost of rebuilding a diesel would be more than what it would cost to buy another patrol .

Cost of rebuilding a TD is exxie
Hence why looking at an ol 53/08
Cheapish and everywhere
The 350 chev route , yep sounds good
But im talking budget build, with access to parts cheap
Ya know buy a 300-500 motor , go see IF i can throw the leg outta bed
Rip it out throw another in
Getting even a good 2nd hand Nissan SD33T , will cost ya between 1-1.5K
(The turbo and manifolds fetch $500)
A TD42, are worth bloody heaps more than that

But if 300-500 is the go
Ill start looking

FYI
It has a 3.3 diesel in it now , done a head gasket
To get this job done will cost more than a $ 300-500 V8

Wintersuns On this weekend, Is it at tweed again this year or just port maquarie? If its tweed ill be going down this weekend

racerphill
Post #1178

"Wintersun" has moved to Port Macquarie.

"Cooly Rocks On" is a new event to replace Wintersun at Coolangatta. Pretty much the same idea.

Most of the action will be next weekend...probably not really worth going down this weekend, unless it's for the music.

Jesus, you're really not having much luck with this, huh? eek3.gif

So got some new headers to go with the new exhaust. Trying to replace them while the engine is in the car = the single most frustrating thing ever. Still haven't got the drivers side on.
