well i was looking at both haha older model becaus ei prefer the shape, also cheaper, newer model because well its newer less k's less wear and tear etc

You should check out OZLiberty.com / club.liberty.com / SL-i.net, All great sites to learn from.

GEN 2's look gay and have headgasket problems. (Average Price $4,100 - $5,900 )
GEN 3's is the best shape liberty they ever made. (Average Price $9,100 - $11,100)
GEN 4's looks to business and passive (Average Price $12,900 - $14,900)

reliablity, with frequent and up to date matenienance subi's will just keep on going and going.
performance, As it will be your first car assuming you are a P plater driving N/A you must deffinalty consider only going for the EJ25 (2.5L) engine as the 2.0L's are gutless and extremely underpowered. All the RX models came out with the 2.5L while the GX is the 2.0L.

Most impreza owners as of late have been going for the libertys over the impreza as they don't have the tacky plastic interior the wrx's come with.
N/A mods all you can really do that has any gains are exhaust / CAI / springs / rims / stereo

Good prices can be found on all of the three models that fit 1990-2002, personally i would get a gen 3, nice styling and subaru are a fairly well built car.

The old man has had a third and forth Gen Liberty station wagon as his run abouts; mainly for golfing and they where fine with regular service; though they where never trashed.

Lacks a little bit of poke compared to my Accord Euro and even thou it does have 4WD it tends to have a fair bit of body roll

ive had a couple of subi's,
i had a nice outback and they are pretty sweet,97 i think it was,,,
99 model gen3 subaru heritage,,really beutiful car ,,,

all i can say is hope u get a manual as the auto gearboxes are all pretty bad when older age
then again it can happen at any klms,,,, if its auto test the gears and the reaction time it takes from n to drive
it has to be instant if not the box is on its way out soon enough

I would suggest not buying an EJ25D, I just bought a 98' Special Edition RX 2GEN and it blew up on me on Saturday...they are notorious for head gaskets due to a design flaw that Subaru admits to. Basically there are only two ways to kill one, no oil, no coolant. Otherwise they are pretty reliable cars.

They chew a little more one fuel vs some of the more economical cars you could buy. In the time that mine wasn't a pain in the ass, I enjoy the car. And I would buy another..just a GEN 3 or above.

I owned a Gen3 Heritage. Unreal car. Had 160,000km on and never missed a beat. It was auto and was an awesome cruise around car. Loved it so much I traded up to the Gen4 MY08 GT-b. Now that was a fuckin awesome car.

As stated the 2.5 litre DOHC engines can be notorious for blowing head gaskets. Provided you keep your eye on the temp gauge and check the coolant levels before any spirited driving they are nice engines and have lots of torques. My 98 RX2.5 blew one of the gaskets shortly after it passed 200k and ive been told this is fairly common so check the Ks on any car you look at. It was caused by a blockage in the heater core limiting the coolant and the head couldnt take it no more and warped sligtly causing the coolant to pressurize and force itself out on long drives. Once i had it all fixed (6 weeks later) i installed a "H block" for the coolant lines so that if the heater core ever blocked up again, the system would simply bypass it. Also the subaru AWD is excelent to drive and the libs dont suffer as much from the fully sic uleh leb reputation that WRXs do.

IMO the gen 2 is the nicest looking as it still has liberty headlights. the gen 3s have forester lights and the back is too upright for my tastes.

2000 gen3 heritage wagon is my current daily, flawless car, havent found a thing wrong with it, definately worth a bit more $$ then and older model or standard edition
