Nice.

Are you doing your exhaust before then?

wbtonner
Post #496

^^^ Went and spoke to Craig this afternoon, getting new exhaust, (what he recomended) and then he'll regraph the dizzy and jet it to suit. I told him cam sizes and he almost started hitting his head against the wall.

He races XU-1's with 202's so he knows what he's doing!!!!!!!!!

Pics will have to wait til tomorrow, it's raining too much outside and I'm nice & cosy

Unfortunetly it's not overly rare these days, but has been my favourite for as long as I can remember so I'm happy to finally have one (sounds kinda stupid given that I'm only 21, but anyway...) - 1968, American, 402 big block - should give you a pretty good idea, haha.

I'm pretty much one of those guys that thinks muscle cars should keep with muscle car kinda wheels, not a fan of big chrome wheels on them. I never realised how small the market is though (or atleast appears to be to me).

The only exception I've found so far are Fikse FM5's which come in 17" and 18" - range from $800-$1000 per wheel.

But I still want to see what other old school styles I can find. What are they GTS/rallie ones like?

i quite like those show wheels look good polished or grey, price is about $320 each, sizes are 17' to 20" in the older cars

So this week I picked up the new project, freshly imported from the US.

Currently planning out everything which led me to start looking at wheels.

What. The. Fuck.

Does no one make anything decent anymore? All I can find is POS 20" billet wheels that look like aids.

Can anyone recommend some decent muscle car style wheels?

The missis runs Hustlers ( i think) and no 3 kids (boys is enough ) :P

Gday Bro google up Antique Tyres click onto wheels go to page 3 and look at the Cragar 390 , way better than some 20 inch shit that willl crack the rim and fuck the tyre the first pothole you hit .

So this is where I am with the Monaro atm:

Going to help with the build of the motor tonight, will try to take some pics if I remember.

Decided I will be pulling the subframe out of the car now and getting it powdercoated as well as replacing all the front bushes, new tierods etc etc etc

Any cleaning up of all thsoe wires?
Would be on my shopping list!

You know you want to.. can't show off a fattie with ugly wires like that...

HSV
Post #504

Wiring will be removed and I am toying with making a 30mm sheet to hide everything behind on the firewall.

racerphill
Post #505

30mm??!!??

...way to lower the front of the car at the same time! lol

Cant wait to see it with the fattie in it!

Ideally I would like to false firewall the back area to hide all the wiring and the bloody wiper motor.

So i was offered a swap for my 99 accord that i have for sale (this is boost, after all. swaps city). wasnt too bad tho - a 63 chevy belair in need of a paintjob with some rust work. 327, glide. Going to have a look at it on monday. had a retrim in the late 90s but i dont think its stood the test of time too well so we will see.

interesting.

I ducked the bullets today and went to Morayfield :)

bought an HQ sedan for an new daily.

Haha place is getting rougher by the day, man!!
Hmm someone was selling a quee in morayfield and i didnt know about it? odd...
Didnt you have a HQ waggin already as a daily?

nightcrawler
Post #510

Mate you can never have to many HQ's , whats the new daily running ?

GTS454
Post #511

yes Rob, you obviously walk around with your head up your.... umm, back on topic yep car was in a little garage under a house, runs a 253 auto, but will have a 202 in it soon... possibly with VK EFI and a hairdryer I think.

has 14x6 and 14x7 GTS rims, one of the best dashes I have seen and is very straight (but has some rust issues on some hanging panels). the interior is pretty clean too.

the plan is to get the body prepped and painted, an engine built and some trimming done while I still have the wagon running and then pull the wagon apart and sell it off in bits. it is a shame, it was a really good car for me... but the sedan is going to be a cracker!!

sounds like a win / win situation man , get rid of the accord and get a chev , you lucky bastard .

lil_bobby_260
Post #514

Hmm deadsled giving me his approval??? Unusual! But who doesnt like belairs i guess.
But yeah its a car that i would keep it era correct (happy? haha), but because i wouldnt be getting cash for the accord, it wouldnt exactly be a big dollar build. The idea with ditching the accord and using my 96 falcon as a daily was to capitalise on the $7k or so that i could get for it, and use that money to finish either the XB or the Galaxie.
Getting the chev would definitely put it all back a bit, but geeez itd be nice to own a 63 belair... ive never known anyone to turn their nose up at one of those. Never owned a chevy.

DeadSled
Post #515

Get rid of the XB, the Galaxy and spend it all on the Chev.

I'll approve if you do it up like this.

Should check out some lowrider forums / sites. Chevybombs is a good one i'm sure they'd have stuff on there for '63 Chevys.

lil_bobby_260
Post #516

Its a four door - pillared. So probably the least sought after. But it is the 327 not the 283 or whatever they came out with, and has a two speed glide in it. Honestly i know next to nothing about chev motors and boxes etc, and even less about belairs/impalas so im not sure where to take it.
I am going to have a look at it tomorrow so we'll see how it goes.
Im comfy with having a stable full of 60s/70s V8 cars no matter the make - i think theyre all gorgeous, so i dont plan on selling anything to build it, even if it makes the process a bit longer.

DeadSled
Post #517

Four door and pillared is fine. Build it like that car in the pic and it'll be fucking rad. You could even import 2dr rear quarters from the states, and coupe front doors and do a 2dr conversion. Theres a bloke on the HAMB who did an amazing job on a Chrysler, and also another on a '55 Chevy.

Yeah i can do one better - he has pm'd me some so i will forwrd it to you now, dan. Needs work for sure - paint job is a MUST, but the interior is good and it was a daily driver til it was pulled off the road for a respray 2 yrs ago that was never finished. Its a complete with all good chrome etc.
Also - my XB is a 4speed column manual 250. I want to convert it to a 4speed floor shift 351.
I figure the hydraulics are all there, and pedal box etc - would you or your brother be able to give me some advice on what i will need to get it done? Can i use the existing gearbox?

43SOM
Post #520

knowing you, knowing a little of the engine going in, the gearbox in it now, won't last and neither will the diff.
remember manuals are harder on the drive train than auto simply due to the shock loads.
You will need a manual from a 351. A toploader would be optimum, but your dishing out serious coin. larry had one last time i looked.
otherwise it would be just changing the linckages from a column to floor, everything else would be the same.
You know there is always the full auto route, either fmx or c4-c10. i know a hilclimb street sprint car runs a full manual t350 box in his ss, works great.

lil_bobby_260
Post #521

Im really gunning for the 4spd manual option. I figure an XB falcon with a 351 four speed and four wheel discs is as close as ill get to a GT, and i bought this one specifically with that in mind.
Toploader eh? hmm dont know about that one, im thinking just a single rail, but not sure if the 6cyl and V8 ones were different.
What about flywheel etc? Bellhousing would obviously need to be changed to the V8 one. I know larry could probably write me a comprehensive list haha... the mans a genuis with these things.

43SOM
Post #522

bell housing, clutch and flywheel. The slave cyl may be the only other differant. tail shafts should mate up as should do the gear box yolk.
Give larry a buzz. pm if ya need his number.
speaking of gt spec, he may have some globes for sale too!

I know there are things like convo pros, but they've been done to death. Weld pro-stars / cragars etc but none really grab me.

Is there anything else out there or do I have to wait til the massive billet wheel fad is over.

Oh, and have a set of Weld draglites already so can't suggest them and originals are out of the question.

jump on the rocket website. Vpw isn't too bad by memory either. but you'll need your back spaces ete to figure out which ones you'll need.
Oh and how much did that set ya back!? My bro is importing from the states, but i don't want to sell the xb, lol.

hmmm nah im after the widened stockos look for some reason - will sit well with the copper bronze metallic/white roof paint (factory paint).
Ive got larrys number, might have to get in touch with him shortly, but theres no real point to bother him just yet. Dan have a glance in the 'swap meet' thread - if there is anything you think he has that im after or will need, let me know!

So I decided to replace my 'straight through' muffler with my other one on Friday afternoon before I went up to munchies, to get rid of that stupid sound it was making. Anyway, I got an exhaust hanger (from the plumbing section at mitre 10 mega LOL) 2 1/4". Welded new muffler in and was about to hang it when I looked at the hanger and was like WTF isn't 2 1/4" . Got the tape out measured it , sure enough was 2 1/4. Measured exhaust, found out to be a 2" exhaust. Also, when I put my foot down now its like the muffler is choking the flow and has reduced it alot. I can feel its being restricted, and with a 202, as you all know, I need as much power as I can get!!!

So new zorst has now moved up the priority list; I was thinking a 2.5" from extractors into a high flow muffler (any brand recomendations???) then split right after that into twins with a 12" hotdog....or something like that.

Any thoughts????????

Also was looknig for this thread and thought it needed a bump.
