How Big Are Your Arms Now? Hahaha

Wasn't too bad, most of it was highway.
Worst part about it was that i've done it before and everytime i've done it, i've stopped and had a look and its flicked off onto the road. Checked it saturday morning, first time it didn't come off, could have pulled over and put it back on. Saves the 12 dollars for a new belt.
Welding straight through muffler in either tommorrow or tuesday :bowrofl:

Its an auto. Not sure about RWC or rego, but i doubt it. Just want to move it on quickly. (my dads car, he's getting a new impreza...)
But for $3500, its a steal. They are all twice that price and twice the mileage on carsales. With 75,000km i doubt there would be anything wrong with it RWC wise.

I doubt I'd pay that much for an unregistered car (unless it was a cool classic of course! :bowrofl: ), so thanks anyway and good luck with the sale.

maybe instead of spending time on the zorst you should align your pulleys so the belt stops flying off.

racerphill
Post #319

yeah, there's defineately a problem there...I've never had a belt fly off of any of my cars and I've been driving for about 25 years!

...had plenty of highly modded Holden 6s, and like I said, it's just never happened. There's no reason it should happen unless, like
GTS said, there's some sort of alignment issue.

Well find out today the deal with the heads.

Left bank head is quite warped and appears to of been that way for a while.

Right bank looks new.

Off for pressure testing today, if all goes well will skim them back to flat depending on how much we need to take off and stick them back on.

Rockers were all out of wack too some big differing figures there.

Might be going BB sooner than I thought.......

Its always been a problem with the car. Tried for hours and hours to get it lined up correctly and never 100% succeded. Only ever does it if i'm really getting into it and turning at the same time. Have been debating for a while to just take it off and sell it and throw a normal box in. :)

Ben is the 308 In the Monaro the Original Monaro Block ? Might be worth just taking it out, keeping it since there worth good money and chucking whatever you want in. Since the cars not that original anyway.

Your reading my mind :)

My plan is to source a BB in the US with goodies and bring it back over here.

I'll sell the short block, the box etc off to finance some of the cost.

Sadly currently buying a house atm means I don't have a lazy $15k to throw at something really good.

Once the crackwhore is back at work though its game on!

Hey ben, what gearbox is in the monaro? and what's the short motor like; cam, pistons etc? (Also, what are you chasing for them?)
I'm most likely going to put a 308 or 350 into the tonner for my opens and slowly build a TOUGH big block for later down the track after I get more experienced driving something with some real power and get more funds coming in. First years don't make too much haha. 3rd years at work are averaging around 60+ so that should help.

Everyone is going big block...
Ive come across an opportunity to run a 460 with a C6 in the galaxie instead of the 351 im 90% of the way through building...
Not sure what would be the better way to go - a bog stock, and pretty old 7.5L or a fresh, worked 5.8L. Thing is, i could sell the 351 ive built, and use the cash to buy the F-truck that the 460 is in and use its motor and box. Or buy the truck, pinch the 460 and fit my 351 to it, give it a quick paint and sell it as a good runner.
I got no idea. Just ive spent a decent bit of $ on this 351, but a 460 would be cool.

ben i wqould inport a bigblock from the states because off aussie $$ are pretty good a mate off imported a blown 350 for 7k with frieght and goverment $$

but you will need near 12/14k to fit it when you get a box built and exhaust fitted so keep that in mind as well

I bought my 454 and T400 over here for $2600. I probs ripped myself off a bit, but I ended up stripping it down, going 30 over, 580 thou lift cam, biggest hypertecs I could buy and some mild port work on my oval port heads... threw on a manifold I paid $50 for, a carb I paid $160 for, and the old girl tuns em at 90!!

probs spent about $4500 on that motor all up. I go to the drags and burn off cars where the starter motor has had more spent on it than my whole car!!!

best thing I ever did was fit that big banger motor! love it.

eh-buddy
Post #329

yep definatly cant argue with that 454 turbo 400 for that price wasnt bad at all

and there aint no substitute for cubic inch's that for sure just with the dollar being pretty high its not a bad option to import as well

HSV
Post #330

Well that was going to be my next question, what box behind it?

The engine itself is easy, I'll prolly source the box from over there as well if I can find/build a decent box.

Pipes I'll buy over here, don't know of anything that is close to HQ sort of setup over there so will have to bit the bullet and buy them here.

I've seen some very cheap dart headed bb's going up over there recently, I have a guy over there that builds engines (PCH) so will send it to him and get him to pull it down and inspect and replace whats necessary, then onforward it to me.

Got a question about this diff i'm interested in.
https://www.boostcruising.com/forums/index....;hl=10+bolt+lsd
I currently have a single spinner with stock 4.11's in it. Would I be able to combine the two to have one LSD running either 4.11's or 4.44, doesn't bother me either way, but I'd prefer 4.44 .
(I can just make out half of what the ad says.)

Thanks mate. I was told it was a 4.11 when I bought the car so my faith was in that old bloke. From the work of his I had to redo I should have guessed he knew nothing. (Does rev its head off cruising down the highway at 100)

just my two bobs worth (and not knowing your car) if you like driving it and dont like using $30 everytime just to go to the shops look around for a 3.36 diff and use that but if you dont mind a bit off long distance driving use a 3.08
4.44 was realy only for towing

i drove a bigblocked wb ute with a 3.08 ratio 10 bolt from dubbo nsw to brissy and only used 80ltrs for nearly 900k's and that was towing a car trailer

but at the end off the day its your car

I already use shitloads of fuel (a full tank gets me around 250-300k's driving quite sensibly) and its only got a 202 in it so the ratio doesn't really bother me and its really only a weekender, so shouldn't change fuel consumption unless I actually do have a 4.11 in it (highly doubt it) even then not that much.
And the dream is to eventually get a big block in the old girl, might not actually be too far away....
