Thought i'd ask here about opinions for a V8 for my opens. I will be pulling my ute (1980 WB tonner) off the road for a revamp ready for my opens and am just wondering people's opinions/thoughts and EXPERIENCE on the topic. I'm leaning towards either a big block or a LS2 (then eventually turbo it) but i'm open to all opinions. I realise I should probably have my ute off the road to have it ready in time, like 18 months but i've done a resto on the car before and if I know a V8 is going in I WILL (well should) be more inclined to finish it!!! Spoke to you on Sunday about what you should do Fuck paying up to 150$ a week in petrol! thats insane! Geez, if you think $150 a week in petrol is insane, you should get out of cars........... I spend roughly $120 p/w on my daily ute alone driving Bris to GC every day, $80 every second week for the missus's daily, and about $100-120 everytime I take the Monaro out lol. Potentially my fuel bill is $240 pw +...... |

Potentially my fuel bill is $240 pw +...... $240 a week plus... Thats like almost 1/2 my paycheck and with going back to uni next year it probs will be my whole pay check! But i guess taking the Monaro out is worth the cost of fuel, id fork out $120 in fuel to take it for a spin haha Out of curiosity what is your daily ute? V8? 89 - 90 a week in fuel? With a 6? Lulz. Suckers. My 202 is like 40 a week at most. I win. Also i don't care what year that pos was made, its not oldschool. Broaden my taste in cars? I have perfect taste in cars. That thing just is NOT oldschool. Its gross. $40 a week? Thats heaps good. How much do you drive it? I mean im doing 350-400km a week in the city, roughly.. hence why i chew through the petrol so much. But i have been driving like a nanna lately and its actually lowered my fuel consumption a fair bit. And when i said broaden your taste in cars i also said "for lack of better words" I mean, sure it may not be your type of thing, But i personally think with a bit of work that can look fairly decent, So sure you could of said your opinion, but there was no need to be a complete c*nt about it. Plus as stated before it purpose is to be a cheap daily and wanted a manual so i can upgrade to my manual license Yes i made the mistake of just getting auto's coz i had no manual car at my disposal and just wanted my license. But hey Its called the Pre-1985 section right? Not the "Old-School" section. Yes i agree i wouldn't by any means call it old school, but bobby asked for pics so i chucked some up. So if i make a thread with anything to do with that car (probs wont) do yourself a favor and DON'T open it. |

$40 a week? Thats heaps good. How much do you drive it? I drive from Shailer Park to Springwood 4 days a week for work, Shailer Park to Woodridge about another 4 times to see the missus, to Mt Gravatt for Uni once a week, random other driving around ect. I don't drive like a girl either really i put my foot down a fair bit. And when i said broaden your taste in cars i also said "for lack of better words" I mean, sure it may not be your type of thing, But i personally think with a bit of work that can look fairly decent, So sure you could of said your opinion, but there was no need to be a complete c*nt about it. I still believe that it should be Pre '80 section because anything from 80 - 85 is shit, not oldschool, not in the same catagory as anything earlier ect. Nothing wrong with having auto license, i mean i have manual license but my HJ is an auto and i don't give a shit. Its a cruiser, fuck what anyone else thinks. |

Haha bloody hell your 202 has good fuel consumption then! Yeah i know what you mean about the whole above 80's thing, and I totally agree with you. The only thing i would say is "Oldschool" post 1980 is the CM (I think that's the model) Valiant.. and even then its not the best looking valiant in my opinion. And well I just want my manual license, Don't want to go buy a car in the future find a great deal, then have to turn it down coz i cant legally drive a manual. Plus they can be more fun to drive haha I'll have the Xc, which will be staying auto as my "cruiser" / weekender |

Ok, well I just went to take the ute down the road, quite sick of driving the laser really, and I was sitting at a set of lights close to home, and temp guage went right up, turned it off jumped out and looked under the bonnet and water *seemed* to be coming from the thermostat housing gasket. I got in started her up just before lights went green and threw a u-turn and got back home with it resting on 3/4 temp. I found out that one of the block off grommets () where the heater hoses usually go to was leaking and it was kinda foamy. At first look looked milky but I tasted it and it just tasted like warm old dirty (like rusty) water. The housing is right above the water pump so i'm guessing/ hoping its just turned up water? Any help appreciated with such little info. |

Same as i have/had the XE, but was really in here cos of the galaxie. Neither XE nor ke70 are old school, but does not make this the incorrect forum. I think old school ended in 79 for ford, with the CM for chrysler, and 79 for holden as well, even tho the VB/VC/VH were still running chrome bumpers. Love the 70s. Missus is into the 50's/60's. Wants an impala or some shit. Exactly, Not gunna be making threads or anything for the Keto in here, coz i do totally agree, yes it is pre 85 but doesn't really belong in here ahah.. BTW Your missus has good tastes in cars! I would love an Impala ahha But even just the fact that shes into old school cars is great, unlike most chicks who love the "sex spec" cars with the oversized chrome dinner plates as rims ahha |

She doesnt quite understand doing up late model cars with fancy body kits and crazy paint and stupid wheels etc. She appreciates fast cars (even if its an import) and cars built to HANDLE the speed and power the put out, and she appreciates classic cars, cars with shape, fast or not. Wish i got a pic of her all dressed up for greazefest - was awesome. Turned heads :-) She likes impalas, but wants something a bit less common in the scene. I wouldnt mind swaying her into a plymouth or oldsmobile, something a lil different and such. |

Haha yeah i don't have anything against imports either, just the way people do them up, I mean yeah it's there car, they can "mod" it how they want. But I personally can't see how bright paint with stripes, and decals, and airbrushing all over it, with 20"+ chromies etc looks good, i can appreciate the effort, time and money they put into it, but personally would never do it. But i guess i am a bit bias, I have always loved old school cars, Big block, V8's, blowers etc over Turbos, body kits and BOV's ahha, But then again i also really like the "VIP" styling, not very practical but IMO looks good. Yeah i remember reading a while ago who talking about her all dressed up for greazefest, Sounds like shes a read catch haha As for something a little less common, id go a Pontiac Parisienne, Dunno what it is but there is something about them i just love, I think its the really bold body lines and the double grill. |

Was having a good night until I threw the power steering belt at Kangaroo Point, showing off to a group of boys in a VN wagon. Had to drive back to beenleigh with out powersteering with a powersteering steering box. :headwall: How Big Are Your Arms Now? Hahaha |
