Hey guys.

Im looking to purchase a hilux for play and i was looking at gettin a space cab.....

How do they go offroad? does they longer body pose any problems when going down in small gullys and up steep hills etc etc ??

I really didnt think the wheel bases would be too different between single cab and extra cab.

Hilux is a top ute and a top 4x4, id buy one, and if i did i would go extra cab too.

My Xtra cab hilux is great off road but people complain about the back seats being to small, but it might be fixed in later models.

same approach, ramp over and departure angles, the little bit of extra wight will give more suspension flex and better traction

I dont see how heavier = better flex? It just equala flogged out saggy and bouncy springs.

A better suspension setup is worth its weight in gold (which is about what it can cost sometimes)

88-97 shape extra cabs have a larger wheel base than the single and dual cabs, i did measure it one day an its quite a bit bigger than a surf wheelbase aswell

mate there is nothing wrong with the space cab's personally the rear seats are useless but for 1 person its ok cause they can put there feet accross the seats also another upside is the aftermarket parts available for hilux's are huge..


far enough this isnt close to standard but they have potential. Just for comparison sake the wheelbase is 125" which is longer than a 80 series or patrol the only time i have found it bad is when turning but i find it to be very stable and goes just as far as everyone else.

Gen 3 space cabs will mostly be IFS also, Live axle ones do exist but they are extremely rare and I have only heard of one. I have never actually seen one.

So to answer your question about as capable as an IFS dual or single cab, the single and dual cabs have the same wheelbase around 115" the space cabs are around 117" from memory. 80 series cruisers are 112" and the gen 3 runners are 104 or 108" wheelbase.

My sassed 4th gen was 119" and it was good for climbing but could be a pita for tight twisty tracks. Hiluxs have a huge aftermarket range for them and if you need a ute imo they are the best in a ute. If you dont need a ute then there are other vehicles for similiar money that are worth a look also imo.

currently running trailgear springs front and rear and for the price i dont think they can be beat for flex and ride quality, they have worn in now and easily acheive 12" of travel the only down side is they are a softer spring so you feel a few more bumps.
