There are 3 different power plants: the 1800 GS (125 bhp), the 2 litre V6 GR/GX (170 bhp) and the top of the range 2.0 V6 24v MIVEC GPX/GPR (196 bhp) which has to be one of the best handling front wheel drive coupes available. The gpr is slightly faster is it doesnt have as much luxuries as the gpx, same engine but lightweight model. The gpr is the ultimate fto.

In terms of tweak potential the FTO is limited. In the same way as extracting more power from a Suzuki Swift GTi engine is difficult, the 6A12 is a real stubborn thing. The problem (if you can call it that) is that the factory has already done a fantastic job. With multi-point EFI, a 10.0:1 CR, MIVEC and 24 valve heads, there's not much more left for the aftermarket tuner to do. Of course, an intake and exhaust should release a little more power (maybe 5-10%) - but that's about it. Personally, I'd also be very inclined to fit a set of road-legal semi-race tyres to a beast like this.

They Are FWD.
They Are Made by Mitsubishi.
I wouldn't buy one.

They WERE one of the best performing FWD cars... in 1996.

Since then there is plenty of FWD cars that would run rings around it.

A VTi-R DC2 or EK4 would be ones that would be in the same price range.

Otherwise look to Europe!

Not one to really talk of PM... so thought I would put it back in here.

Integra might not have won car of the year...

But it appears the year after the FTO won (94-95) the Honda Civic actually won it (95-96). Car of the Year - Japan

Go drive a few more FWD cars before you start making outrageous claims that you think the FTO is the best FWD car available. Anything from Honda with a "Type R" Badge and anything out of Europe that is known as a "Hot Hatch" would out perform it (In every way).

Ive had a honda civic and i admit its a very reliable car at the bend but no where as near as powerful as the fto, power to weight ratio.

2L 24v V6

Compared to a 1.6L 16v I4 (I assume your Civic had a B16a in it, otherwise if it had some type of D-series, they aren't even comparable)

Two totally different engines.

The engine in the FTO is a good piece of kit, but it's not being used for the right application (FWD). A twin Turbo version is used in the VR4 Galant, and they are fantastic (As they are AWD)

This fto has beaten my ca18det turbo, i was right behind it but as soon as it swiched into second and past 7500rpm i couldnt catch it until went past 110mph. Hey jezza you wigger, my cars up for $5500 now man if u want it its yours.

im not into the awd, not dissing it but its just not my kinda ride, front wheel drive handles better than rear whel but cant drift obviously, my opinion fto turbo beats VR4 Galant every time.

aftermarket for these is a bitch.. i hear gearboxes are costly to replace?

yea your talkin about 2500 for a gearbox, but it hasnt missed a beat yet, only problem i had which was weird, right voltage was going into the altinator but it wasnt coming out after 6500rpm to the mivec engine. runnin sweet now though.

Well it wont cost as much to put a supercharger or turbo on an fto as it would with a vr4, turbo conversion costs around $2000. mght need a gear change shift light though cause it goes fkn hard. gonna bring it down the 1/4 mile. i reckon its a 11 second car or just over

Yeah I chopped an FTO in my 20v corolla quite easily, not sure what model but it wasn't that great.
