How many cages have you done now Paul?

I think it's 6 half cages and 2 full cages for the excel guys, and add one more for my little excel that I'll do next week.

paul, are you making cages for the excels? (sorry if i didnt see a previous post)
can you pm me some prices?? :o because i want to keep the car road rego'd - i think 6point are illegal on the road? (correct me if im wrong?)
so i'd be interested in something like a 4point fixed or bolt in, but also can bolt up to 6point (if thats legal for road and for the circuit racing series)...

i received my camber bolts today, fitted them to top strut bolt, also elongated the top bolt hole to acheive some more camber (dunno if this is ideal or not), and left bottom bolt as standard. adjusted the toe in as it was pretty bad and all done! i think i have about 3-3.5deg neg camber. took it for a drive - makes a noticeable difference :o

looks good - but still have stock springs in it :D might have to look at this issue too

Camber will help cornering heaps.
I also have caster kits (bushes) available as well now.

Beannie
Post #1021

just out of curiosity, will lowering the car make more neg camber with the suspension setups excels use? i would assume it would.. by a little bit yeah?

NISMOgemini
Post #1022

on the front it will.. not sure what kind of rear suspension they have.. if its axel beam then it wont on the rear

100% agree no point in running camber if you dont have the caster as well. I have poly offset bushes already.

New struts should arrive in the next couple of days, so should be good for May, although the outside of the car is still a mess.

I will be running monroe fronts and kyb rears, lovell rear springs and unknown front springs.

Its good to see a few guys getting the handling side of things sorted.
The softer tyres have likely been suffering wear issues due to the road setup that a lot of people started with.
We might find that we can make a grippy tyre last a lot longer than they have been.

We're running -2.3º camber (max we could get from single adjustable camber pin) and still killing the shoulders on our tyres.

Here's a pic from Lakeside last week:

what springs and shocks are proving to be the best option??

We were unable to find a suitable spring off the shelf, so Dobinson Springs in Rockhampton have rolled coils for us. Naturally our car has yet to run, so i am not suggesting they are the ants pants, but hopefully they will be appropriate. If the coil/strut package works, sets will be made available as a shelf item. Come see car 81 at Lakeside on its first run next Sunday.

i didn't think custom springs were allowed?

Beannie
Post #1041

anything is allowed  you'd be put into the modified class instead of the stock car class (which everyone is pretty much running in).

springs and shocks have to be "standard fitting parts that are readily available from retail outlets"
so custom made springs would make the car not eligble for stock car class.

But then once they are a stock item available off the shelf, will the car then be able to run in the stock class???

NISMOgemini
Post #1043

as part of the excel series, my understanding is custom is not aloud.. fair enough they might become "off teh shelf" but currently they are not/would not be

Side exhuast got done on the weekend, sound sweet not very loud at all, 2" from the flex through a open chamber muffler then dumped before the rear wheel.

Race seat and harness all sorted now just need some brakes and tyres. I wont be ready for the 16th, I guess I will have to wait for June.

For future reference fitting a race seat to hyundai rails is pain the in the arse. I drilled out the rivert holing the tilt mechanism got some 50x5 flat as cross bars and then bolted the seat to that.

I have 1 pair of camber bolts left over if anyone is intrested. Yours for only $20. Running both holes on the front and the top hole on the rear.

As I said we had springs manufactured by Dobinsons. They now have sets in stock for Hyundai's available to anyone direct from their ware house.

Check out the Mounfield Racing Car's pic on Mounfield Racing on facebook... There is pics of the modified seat mounts. Cutting and boxing the floor support and mounting the seats lower and better placed. Good way to spend a saturday in cutting up a hyundai!
