Welcome to the Sprint racing thread for 2010 where all things sprint racing can be discussed. Brought to you by Evaded Motorsport Our main topic is covering Boosters who sprint race out at Queensland Raceway (http://www.queenslandraceway.com.au/) but if you prefer hill climbing out at Mt Cotton, Warwick or Lakeside please feel free to add in with updates or just generally have a chat about car mechanics and setup Some of the more experienced sprint racers have gone onto Top Gear for next year and we'd like to hear back from them every now and again to see how they are progressing in the grid racing format. So, here are the dates for all the mayhem in the 10 of 02. This year due to the growing popularity of Lakeside, I've included the Street Sprint and Midweek Sprint series in the dates as well. As per usual, each date will be updated with relevant links to photo after the event. (Actually fuck it QR Calendar makes it next to fricking impossible to list the dates so here is the link - Thanks to Dave for the list) (CALENDAR) (Click Here) ----- Here's the dates you're after Top Gear Sprints Series Feb 13 LP Mar 27 QR May 22 LP July 17 QR Sept 25 QR Nov 13 LP Saturday Afternoon Sprints Jan 30 Mar 6 April 10 June 19 July 31 Sept 11 Oct 30 Nov 27 Wednesday Afternoon Sprints Feb 17 April 21 June 23 Aug 18 Oct 6 Dec 1 Lakeside Street Sprints Mar 7 April 11 May 30 Aug 1 Oct 17 Dec 5 Lakeside Open Sprints Jan 31 Mar 14 May 16 July 25 Aug 29 Nov 7 Lakeside MidWeek Sprints Feb 18 April 22 June 24 Aug 19 Oct 21 Dec 2 ----- Now, the important stuff - Entry forms available from here: http://www.trackattack.com.au/2010/index.p...6&Itemid=76 Don't forget to preregister because as well all know it's getting mighty popular. You also won't be stuck like JayRad changing tyres out in the hot, hot sun, because you nabbed yourself a pit, allocated first come first serve on registrations, not from when you rock up. Plus it is cheaper pre registering and you are sure of a spot so register ASAP. Try not to forget the basics like tyre pressures and fuel. You don't want to be stuck zipping off the track and down the road to top up because you were a silly bugger and thought you'd be able to cope on a 1/4 of a tank ----- POST YOUR TRACK FOOTAGE HERE...SO WE CAN ALL SEE YOU PICK YOUR NOSE DOWN THE MAIN STRAIGHT For QR Events - https://www.youtube.com/group/QR For Lakeside Events - http://au.youtube.com/group/lakesideraceway ----- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: I was wondering if some one can pm with some info on sprints, like where u get ya license from, wat the vehicle requires. all those sort of things. A: Track Attack You can drive any vehicle provided it's safe and won't drop oil all over the track (*cough* No S2000s allowed *cough* ). There are no minimum requirements. All you simply do is preregister and pay for the session, rock up to QR on the day and check in, tell them you need an AASA licence, fill out the other form they give you and pay for the licence and off you go. Very simple, very laid back. Q: ok ok is there an unwritten rule in this department.... like does the slow guy kind of move over for the fast guy or does the fast guy have to work for it.... school me! A: Less unwritten and more voiced - If someone faster comes up behind you, you should move left and let them pass you. There isn't supposed to be any overtaking anywhere but the two straights, but when you're in a competitive bunch it does happen. I maintain my line through corners and move out of the way if someone wants to pass me. Obviously it's their responsibility to do it safely and will be their fault if something goes wrong. ----------------------- If you intend to particpate this year in the QR Sprint series just feel free to post in here with any questions you might have; like what tyres does Garlic Rx7 use to spin so gracefully with ??? (What happened to Garlic haven't seen him in ages?) Also there where a few projects from last year that where getting built for this season, if anyone has progress reports on their beasts/or friends your welcome to tell us how it's going in here and we can all drool or point out the cool back yard special modifications you may have made So see you out in the field and let the mayhem commence PS. If you go slower then your PB we are going to put you into the Excel group... No sweat mate Now I'm embarrased that I don't know who's behind Evaded! :[ Don't sweat, I think we have only met a couple of times in passing. I was racing the Purple starlet GT which we pulled off the road to rebuild and had the white AE82 Corolla out on the 14th of March at Lakeside if you were there. |

Sup so explain to me, how my worn ku36 tyres, with less tread thickness and more rubber in contact with the road ... become less grippy. arent they closer to a slick now? is the rubber closer to the belt a different compound? or have many heat cycles taken their toll on the rubber quality? is this a stupid question? Heat Cycles most likely. getting towards the end of their life. |

yes old tyres are harder due to heat cycles. |

Just be conscious of the RSR's on a car over 1000kg. Every report I've had from guys "that know" that they're fairly "loose" in the sidewall, and don't respond to higher pressures to get around the problem. |

If not, just bite the bullet and put some proper tyres on it mate. Is that compared to the KU36 or a proper semi slick ? Cal's been running the KU's. The RSR's have a metal sidewall slipper. |

It's not your daily is it Callum? If not, just bite the bullet and put some proper tyres on it mate. x2 What you learnt by driving on the kumhos will serve you well for going fast on some proper rubber. I think the price of RSRs is too close to real semis and their performance too close to KU36 for them to be worth bothering with. For my money its either KU36 or some sort of proper semi or even slick tyre. If it is your daily, find some secondhand wheels for the proper tyres. Give Craig at Hornibrook Motorsport a call - 3865 1072. He's the QLD Kumho motorsport distributor. Tell him you're a mate of mine. I've been racing with him for years at hillclimbs and sprints around the place. He'll look after you. |

Yeah Craig is the wholesaler that we get the Khumo's off when we sell them. |

There are a few options, Khumo being one Silverstone offer a cheaper option as well. although I do still like the kumho's We get the Silverstone's in that approximate size for around $330 - $350 from memory. |

Kumho slicks are cheaper than (most) semis at the moment, which is why I have a set. They are old stock though - 2006 manufacture dates which is why they're on special. Not much in the way of 17" semis on special. And don't bother with their KU36 prices - cheaper places to get them as you know. |

Very Cheap on the slicks, Craig has been keeping those to himself ! |
