No matter what metal is removed we need to make sure that they are still safe, or the powers that be will just ban them altogether if we start using cars that are so stripped out that they become unsafe/unpredicatble.

Yes the idea is to improve the power to weight ratio, but not at the sake of safety. In a shunt I want as much strong sound steel around me as I can get, thanks.

Jeff, if there is side intrusion beams as part of the roll cage, then the removal of the stock side intrusion beam should be ok, but there will be no real weight loss as the roll cage side beam will probably weigh more the the stock one.

Win with skill then, not because your car's lighter. I know it's not door to door racing, it was a poor metaphore for the timed laps. And we all know that when there's a few evenly matched cars on track near eachother it turns into a bit of a dice :thumbsup:

We obviously see the series different. I won't get into it if there needs to be much preperation to the car needed, I have a real car I'd prefer to spend time and money on. The attraction to the series for me was an excel can be kind of treated like a "tear-off", if you blow it up or bend it, just get another and swap your bolt in cage and tyres over into another $500 excel and you're away again.......

Stock body. Save arguments. We are running and need to keep our shitbox road legal, so most people have an advantage on us already.. but its too much fun to give a shit about.

Sounds good to me. Leave all the stock metal in place and add to it if you like, but the complete stock body sheel is the benchmark.

It may be possible to run a race / sprint / Hillclimb series over 5 or 6 different tracks if there is enough interest.

Tamworth = too far.
carnell/warwick = hike but doable for a weekend series kidna thing. for one day I think its a bit much.

A hillclimb/sprint/circuit pro series would be EPIC!

Price includes fitting and balancing if collected from QR (maybe also lakeside...tbc)

those are the sizes closest to the requirements for the Excels.

Let me know what other sizes you need and I can follow up on them.
pretty certain you can get them in big sizes for bigger cars etc.

Based on previous comments I would guess not, but just want to check. Just tyring to find space to fit my new muffler.

Depending on what model you have, take the source from behind the dash it is the white wire

I Already knocked the front on my car and the metal in these is light weight and very workable I would keep as much as the metal as you can, i have most my interiour out but i have some with full cars doing 4 sec's better that me and i am a light weight guy, focus on engine health and getting around corners, tyres

hey all Excel Drivers, SWAY BARS
i have been in chats with jeff about the bars we can use as i already went out and got mine i have a nice new 18mm on the rear but was told by whiteline they only made a 22mm solid to replace the orig 22mm hollow front bar which they no longer make due to lack of sales(bad timing for them), and jeff is talking about staying with 18mm on the fronts as well, but i think there would not be any benifit, not that i think a supplier will make anything less than a 22mm sports bar, we need to know what others think and know about Excel front sway bar and do you want 22mm front solids or search for 18mm bars or stick with the standard.

It is alot easier to take the source from the back of the guage cluster. The wire is still there even if you dont have a factory tacho

even thow its hard to get to the ecu it will be quicker an the dashes are fragile (old plastic) if you like your dash i would go to the ecu

my x3 twincam didnt have a wire behind the cluster, there is one from the ecu we took, ill check it tomorow at work and let u know tomorow if u havnt had any luck...

Dunno why you'd even bother upgrading the front sway. A 22mm solid bar is just going to make it understeer.

Having finally given ours a good flogging on decent tyres over the weekend, it's surprisingly neutral at the limit and we're not in any real hurry to get a RSB.

The reason I asked about the fuel cell is that I might be able to get a few ally cells made to fit in the spare wheel area!!! But happy to keep the original tank.

If you fit the fuel tank inside the cabin you will need to have fire separation between the tank and the driver.

If I can get mine sorted good enough to be safe I will bring it up, otherwise its the datsun.
Speaking of the datsun I found the problem from the weekend, stupid bloody ball valves causing overboosting !!!!

No other excels have signed up, here is my current list

FYI
I have a custom pedders 24mm solid front bar on mine and the whiteline solid 18mm on the rear.
But i have 6kg springs in the rear and 4kg on the front of my coilovers.
Its not understeery at all.

Plus i found this on the rally site. '96 model for $1000

Has anyone actually tried to fit a set of 7 or 8" wide rims to a lowered Excel. Especially in those offsets.
I have 6.5" rims in +40 offset (which offsets the rims 40mm closer to the car from the center line of the rim)and the guards needed quite a bit of pumping to make room.

15*6.5 @ 35+ works for us. we are still getting some rub on the back wheels with 205's... they bulge a litte. I guess 15*7's would be the pick
