unless port and polish came factory then its not stock
adding a resistor to a temp sensor is altering the engine wiring loom

I dont really want to have to make the rules overly complicated and nail down every little item.
The general intent is have a stock driveline that is cheap.

comin Richard, ditch the rx7 and come racing

I have proved time and time again you makemore power with cheap spark plugs than with expensive however they dont last very long is all.

will have deatils on Monday but I think I have stumbled across the holy grail for cheap suspension upgrade for the excel

tip look for a realy heavy car grab the spring and put them in a light car instant race suspension excel style, also hoping for about a 70mm drop in ride height

The problem is your dampers won't be upto the task.

so you should be allowed to change from p/steer to manual steer as i know its not alot of extra power but every little bit helps

trackattack
Post #567

yes you are allowed to remove the power steering if you want.
You are also allowed to install the factory power steering if you want it and dont have it.

On the twin cam its brown with a white tracer
6th wire from the left on the top

on the X3 single cam its a white wire at No. 6

Well done !
I don't think that my car will be ready for this weekend so I will probably be in the Datsun this Sunday.

I have been talking to some of the tyre wholesalers and I might be able to put together a tyre deal. There are a few ways that this can be approached.

1 - we get a large discount on a full semi slick race tyre
2 - We get a reasonable discount on a high level road tyre
3 - We get a set of tyres as a prize for the winner of the circuit racing series

If we wish, the tyre agreement can be made for the circuit racing only, that gives us the ability to allow a few extra types of tyres to be used at the sprints like we do now, but also hopefully get a good deal on a tyre that can be used for sprints and circuit racing.

Thoughts ?

Is it possible to run circuit and sprint on the same type of tyres?

With it being budget type racing having to have another set of rims tyres is not a luxury we can all afford. It would be a nice idea to be able to run the cars the same all year and still provide a levelish playing field.

Just my 2c worth.

Yes, if we do a tyre deal the tyres would be included in the tyre list for sprints
so you would be able to run the same tyres at both events.

benno.h
Post #584

We've just forked out for tyres, so I'd rather not have to buy new ones if there's going to be a control tyre for circuit racing. And we specifically didn't buy the Federal RSRs because we thought semi slicks were prohibited, so it would kinda suck to see everyone running semi slicks now.

And getting another set of rims may be difficult.

trackattack
Post #585

If we did it an Amnesty period would be in place to allow people to run out their current tyres.
and yes I still think we should avoid semi slicks if we can due to ongoing costs.

wasas
Post #586

The RSR's anyway..

For the record PM me what tyre you were thinking about. Ideally we'd throw a sticker on and get cheap rubber. While not a control tyre the price vs handling would just have to be better than the other options

And yeah 15" Hyundai rims aren't the easiest thing to come across..

I wonder if there will be ANY excels racing circuit? :)

NISMOgemini
Post #587

il be down for a set of cheap tires for sprints.. even tho i dont have a car yet iv got my rims sorted.. so if theres a good deal on tires ill grab them now for later in the year. keep me posted :)

sv8nato
Post #588

that would suck now if you allowed semi slicks cause i picked up a tyre sponsor for my car but not for slicks,i think if i had to change to slicks now i would lose that sponsor, and i dont think it will be a cheap option for alot of people

NISMOgemini
Post #589

if you wanna run circuit with a better tire, get another set of wheel i reckon. u can get 15's for less then half what the tires you put on them are gonna cost you. hardly gonna break the bank.

DVS88
Post #590

the new swifts run a 15inch steelie which should be able to be picked up cheap enuf i have tried one on my pintara and it has perfect offset on it which give the right offset on an excel

X3man
Post #591

Why not change the rules for next season.

On a side note:
You can use elantra 4 stud rims for 15's.
R888's are available in 13/185/60 and 15/195/50

NISMOgemini
Post #592

yeah next season would make it a little more fair on people who have already set up there cars.. mid season rule changes would get people a bit sour if they have spent money on a past rule that would now give them disadvantage

X3man
Post #593

Just read the rules, 75hp is too low and can be achieved with legal mods. The front sway bar is more than 18mm stock on an X3.

NISMOgemini
Post #594

x3man, whats the r888 worth? in 15 195 50

wasas
Post #595

x3man, how do you plan on getting more than 75hp out of a unopened stock intake/exhaust manifold excel engine? I mean they only had 65kw (88hp) at the engine, after loss of 15% you should have 70-75hp, now factor in the engine's been flogged for its 200,000km life and it should be in the 60's. The twin cams should be about spot on the money.
Pod should be good for a hp or 3, cat back should be maybe another 1 or 2 if your lucky. what else can be done?

and full R spec's are expensive. this is supposed to be CHEAP racing... sticky road tyres should be enough.
