Has anyone weighed a stripped out Excel??

Just trying to figure out the best option for transporting one and came across a website for an A-frame!!! But it needs to be below 750Kgs!!! Failing this I might try a light weight trailer but still would like to know the weights.

Mate i'm currently trying to work out the same issues.....if there's any way we can work together to cut costs or something like that let me know.

found out today about this series, i bought a dirty old 99 excel on friday with a blown head gasket $150. needs a windcreen and a radiator and im ready to race,

some kind of enduro race would be a good test of the korean krap and would be great fun, should be able to do 1200km before you need to refuel

ROLL CAGES

•Roll cages are permitted
•Roll cages are not required for sprints and hillclimbs
•If you attend circuit racing you will need a minimum 4 point roll cage

Just to clarify, you need a roll cage installed if you actually want to race but don't need one if you just want to do sprints?

Anyone got contacts for a cheap 4 point cage for x3 excels yet?

Jeff had a mate whos doing his this week apparently. I hit him up on the weekend about it as well, said it should be around 500ish, and I planted the idea in his head he should make a few up cheap.... we'll see what gets fitted and go from there.

NO roll cage required for sprints.
Minimum for circuit racing is a 4 point.

Mine wont be going in until next week probably now, I've got no time for anything this week I'm afraid.

Jeff's hoping to have his ready for me to do the cage next week, I could probably do another at the same time.
Could race on the 14th and then drop it off after the sprint as I only live 10 min from Lakeside.
Cheers Paul

Sounds like the guy in the video has cut his pipes just behind the drivers seat, Iam going for a set of side pipe, where it turns 90 degrees across the car it will just continue out the side in front of the rear wheels

just after some free knowledge (rather than spending heaps to find out it dont fit!)

tyres - have 14' mags at the moment, good offset etc... want to buy new ones at least the front, any good ones for 14's? and good widths without fouling on bits?
other than that, if we go 15's, whats the best offset possible and tyre width combo?

i dont want to go too crazy on it all, but just something simple.
currently running 185/60/14's.

ku36's are only avail in 15's - is there any other brands which have 14's??

wasas
Post #413

dont know about the 14's but
for 15's you want a 6/6.5" rim, with a 35 offset, running 195/50/15's.
i guess a 205/50/15 would fit as well.

15" rubber for that is easy to find. 14's i got nfi

Beannie
Post #414

yeah i know - i'd much prefer a 15, but then i have to buy rims AND tyres...

thought i would make do with the 14's to start with - and can develop it as time goes on. however, 14's seem a little difficult unless i go with plain ol cheapy ones.

any one got any tips on suspension

I was thinking on getting low king springs and cutting another 30mm of the ride height, I have non conical spring in my excel

I might hit the wreckers on the weekend and see what else has the same diameter spring, I reckon the rears from a commodore would be close

trackattack
Post #416

one of the nissan front sprints is the same diameter, but higher...... bugger cant remember which one the guys said it was now.... pintara I think.

Do not cut your springs!

wasas
Post #418

Eibach have a sale on at the moment for 94-96 springs, which are the ones that fit your ride. and what ever u do, dont cut the springs.

As for rubber i guess a 185/195 60-55 14 would work.

But it is a perfect way to triple your spring rate, wreck the progressive rate and give yourself a shit product

I think you need to take about 60mm of the std ride height of an excel, however there is no manufacture that makes them off the shelf at that height for the excel.

To the nissan section I will head first at the wreckers
