Hey guys,
Next year im hoping to purchase a 1989 BMW 325is, they have a 2.5l straight 6, I was looking to buy one like this

I was looking to keep it street legal and still driftable, Im thinking I will get a bit of internal stuff done to the engine and get a LSD and stiffer suspension. Is there anything else i should look into getting done? This is to be kept P Plate legal.
Thanks alot

Wrong car for the wrong purpose.

Buy a S13/14/15/Skyline/Cefiro

810 OUT

why so negative mr 3kgt. just because its different doesnt mean it cant be done. will just be a more expensive exercise that is all

Why so serious 810 OUT. I'm being a realist, he's a P plater. He won't have enough money to make it drift properly.

Why reinvent the wheel? Why not just use what has been tried and tested? That has been proven to work time and time again and is piss cheap (S13)

810 OUT
Post #5

lol i can see you point but i guess i just wanted to give op benifit of the doubt that he had the money to do so. i mean he is looking to buy a bmw to drift so he has obviously counted in for the fact that the stock diff is weak and parts are expensive so he must have money to burn unsure.gif

as to the why reinvent the wheel comment i disagree on that one. why fit in with the crowd i wouldnt own an s13 but stole the engine out of one and in my eyes have a better car than s13 so its all relative and worth while if ppl have the pateince and realise that when building a project your "budget" will 810 OUT considerably... see what i did there

I see where you are coming from as well man, I reckon use the E30 shell and drop an SR20DET in it.

it's not so much as he can't drift it as it would be a fucking waste to drift a clean E30 like that.

get somethign expendable, a crapper S13 and drift in that instead, or an E30 318i with Sr20 swap.

what i would recommend

buy a NON REGISTERABLE S13/14 (means they will be alot cheaper)

and have that as a pure track car, then you can have it turbo'd etc... not legal, so you can set it up properly, and then have whatever car for your daily

i can see both sides of this arguement...yes its good to be different, but if you're serious about getting into drifting, it is a wise move to hook yourself up with something you can throw around, break and damage without having to worry about the hassle of finding replacement parts/panels. there are also incredible amounts of 'drift' upgrades available for jap cars. it would be much harder to set up a bmw with the right suspension and alignment than something jap...but thats not to say it can't be done. it all comes down to what you want more really...to be different, or to have your car on the road more often.

Ok wow guys this was blown out of the water like crazy, Ive signed up for the army next year and will be making a G a week and at my age I wont have any other expenses that need to be paid.
I fully understand the fact that i can go buy a S13 and drift it with little mods done, but I wont this car to be able to drive on the street also and be able to put some skidders on the back and have some fun drifting.

I was basically asking if this can be achieved without mass amounts of money being spent, I dont want to drift professionally or anything crazy just have some fun.

Thanks to the people who have left positive comments, I now have an idea as what I will need to do.
Thanks

John.

Leave the 325iS to the enthusiast's smile.gif

You can buy a 325i coupe for half the price of an iS.

Ive read on many E30 sites that the iS came with better parts stock and it was dubbed the Sport version, not sure on the truthfulness on that though.

I personally think that it would be a sick drift car... just as for parts thats a different story, it would be too expensive if your car died hardcore...

most of that you would be replacing anyway.

sportier may mean stiffer susy, maybe a few spoilers, wheels, interior etc

these a rb20 or 25 old beemer (dunno what series) down her in tas... but its bright orange and has a body kit sad.gif

Its true.

Mtech Kit, Sports interior, Suspension, LSD, etc.

They fetch anywhere between 15-20k. A normal 325i on the otherhand will fetch less then half for a decent example.

Mine.
Drifts well enough, yet to take it to a track.
Only mods so far are H&R springs, Bilsteins shocks, whiteline front and rear swaybars, and an LSD diff centre (mine wasnt an IS).
Forget the nay-sayers, it can be done, and cheaply. This has cost me much less than a silvia would, less than my R31 did even.

You should buy my bbs rs 15x7.5 for that car it would look hot as with the stock guards and the mtech1 kit

got a link to pics? i have a set of wide offset 15x7 simmons for it already, but i have a mate with a red e30 coupe that is chasing BBS wheels for his. Also - it is a Foha kit from what i can see, and the guards on mine are actually widened by about 10mm at the rear and a bit at the front.

EDIT: just saw pics and price - i'll pass the info on.

We r building a bullet drift, cheaper for parts....no? different....yes!

do some research wink.gif www.r3vlimited.com

what your looking at is a high quality, somewhat "rare" e30- around 15-20 k mark
would be good buy, but bmw's are not meant to be cheap so be prepared to be spending alot of money

i recommend going for a cheap rusty 8* model 325- thrash it around and just keep as drift car and have a cheap daily driver

or find late model 323i and get m20 bottom end (325i) build 2.7l stroker and get lsd

so many options with the e30 but when you think about it you might as well buy an s13 so much easier, lots of after-market support- especially for drift

if you go for track car option remember e30s are sluts when it comes to engine conversions, sr,rb,2j,ls1 and various other bmw engines, even a m70 v12 with twin turbos will fit-

Those BMW are the most common drift car in Europe.
So i dont see why not.

Google it.

Thats right - E30s are really just the european silvia.
VERY cheap to buy, cheap to mod, and youll find they are actually cheap to maintain - they are an easy, cheap car to get parts for, ive found, and VERY easy to work on by yourself.

Hey Bud
Use what ever car you wish. The European guys are using that model of Beemer. Stick with simple stuff first like exhaust, Suspension package if you can afford it, and a good filter/intake system. No need to go for big power numbers to start with. The AE86 is low on power but drifts like a mongrel. Great car.
Start simple then work your way up to the more expensive gear and you will learn how your car reacts to each mod.

N/A straight six 2.5l does really well, cause they are soooo light

Oh wow thats awesome. Do many people on here know much about the 2.7l stroker conversion? I want to do it when i get my e30 but ive heard mixed reviews, some say its alot more power and torque all round and others say that the bigger rod becomes less stable and cant hold higher RPMs.
