Hi all, Im just new to this site so please go easy on me..

The project so far....

car: 89' 75 series cruiser, sick of havin no power.

Engine: VN series 2 V6

Mods:

Full rebiuld with acl race series everything
reduced compression to 7.5:1
Garrett GT 3076R full custom pipe work, front mount etc. (single turbo setup)
2 x Bosch 044 fuel pumps, one to surge tank and one to engine
Bosch 36lb injectors

My main concern is the ECU, Ive gone to a lot of trouble to install the whole commodore wiring harness including instrument cluster, fuse blocks the works.

Im now trying to figure out if I need to run a Programmable ecu like a Haltech E6X or similar.

I was planning on just changing the memcal to suit boost, cam, fuel etc.

Has anyone run 14psi on a standard ecu?

Can I run a cheaper piggy back type?

What would happen if I didnt change the memcal or ECU?

Im not aiming for massive power/boost, I just want to know that its not gonna break when Im 1500ks from the nearest tow truck lol.

Why did you drop the compression so far? Plenty of people are running big boost into these motors with stock compression... compression helps bring the boost on quicker too.

It is possible to fit a 2 bar map sensor and run the factory wiring loom with a reprogrammed memcal. I also suggest using the super6 spark plugs(colder temps)

What injectors have you upgraded to?

I ve dropped the comp. down so I can feel a bit better about not blowing it to bits when Im out bush or when I flog the fuck out of it and since Im rebuilding it myself its not a problem.

The injectors im after are the same as the L36 supercharged model. They are a bosch # 0280 155 868.

I havent got em yet so if you know of a better option please let me know.

Whats a 2 bar map sensor and where can I get one?

Ebay. I've seen plenty on there, available with a Memcal.

Bosch 36Lb/333cc injectors smile.gif You could also look at the 42Lb(444cc) injectors as well.

http://www.speedinc.com/catagory.cfm?catag...l%20/%20Cooling

US$320 for a set of 8x 36Lb injectors and $315 for 8x 42Lb injectors. Contact their international sales guy Fraser and see what pricing he can do for you on 6 injectors.

Finding them in Australia for under $80 each is hard sad.gif

2 bar map sensor is so the ECU can see the boost pressure and add the extra fuel. I have a part number somewhere, will find it for you smile.gif

Hey thanks for your help mate. That part number would be handy.

Does anyone know of an easy way to make the TBody face the drivers side? Is there an aftermarket plenum sort of thing around?

Ive looked for different inlet manifolds and other than COME racing there isnt much choice, and the COME inlet is a dual TBody setup which faces toward Pass side anyway. And a hefty price tag.

find a dyno tuner with kalmaker software so the std ecu can be tuned to suit your engine with the mods in place, dont buy a memcal thats said to be tuned to the mods youve done,or you will be asking for probs,or you can get a haltech ecu which will plug directly into the gm harness and have more options when tuning.2 bar map sensor will work up to 15psi or use a 3 bar which will handle 28psi gm no 1223861

thanks for that mate

ok things are comin along pretty good, I got the motor mostly back together, I left the comp ratio at stock 8.5. Got the new turbo, its a bit bigger than original plan being a GT4082 so we ll see how that goes.

Next question...

I know when turbo ing other engines you need a good breather and catch can, but this motor has an internal PCV valve. Do I still need the catch can?

Next question..

If I run a T piece from the oil presure switch, I can run my oil pres. gauge and feed the snail. Can I leave the oil presure switch unplugged? or will it fk with the ecu? Other wise ill have to have 2 T pieces to get 3 outputs.

Next question..

Is there a specified distance for the Oxy sensor away from the block?
What ll happen if I dont use a Cat conv?(other than legalality)

just buy a 4way block one side screws back into the engine leaving 3 outlets for you to use.

You will need two T blocks or a single 4 way or even run an oil distribution block.

No need for a catch can and breather.

O2 sensors will need to be plumbed in about 30cm from the exhaust outlet and I suggest running a catalyic converter, the Magnaflow ones can be bought cheap enough for a 3" metal substrate one.

There is a vac line goin from the intake man to the throttle body near the throttle pos sensor. If I leave that hooked up wont it presurize the inlet? I think Ill block off the throttle body side and run the other to the catchcan which has vac line back to the air filter. Ive already installed the catch can anyway.

oh and has anyone got the Kalmaker software?

That hose sounds like it is for the IACV system which is fine to be hooked up to the TB, as it inly opens when the engine is idling. Under boost, it will be closed. You do not want the ICAV sucking in oil vapours unless you want it to have idle problems wink.gif

ha ha started the motor for the first time today! I cant believe it started instantly. Mustnt have fucked anything up when I rebiult it eh..

so a quick look at the mods so far are:

rebiult v6
shift kitted th700
garrett GT4082
bosch 044 fuel pump (700hp capable)
333cc inj
custom turbo pipes and extractors
modified comp, with turbo chip
2 bar map sensor
FMIC
BOV
Custom sump
Custom cross member
adaptor kit from marks 4x4
boost gauge
oil presure gauge
thermo fan
commy seats, carpet, shifter, instruments, fuse boxes, computer, harness, airbox and even the windscreen washer bottle.

Theres so much more done but you get the idea.

Man you were way wrong about that PCV valve. It put som much presure in the block the oil was comin out the rocker covers. Catch can installed and all fixed. Thanks for all the help along the way. thumbsup.gif

Here's the car/engine Im talking about for all those that dont know

Holy shit, dude.

Makes me want to turbo the ecotoec.

$?

driveshaft22
Post #17

Actually the turbo components by themselves werent that much, but Im a boilermaker so I made everything myself.

I bought:

Turbo $800
Intercooler $100
BOV $25
2bar map sensor and custom memcal $250
36lb inj $400
2 fuel pumps and surge tank $300
all the pipe work including 3" exh not including labour $600

ok well it looks expesive now, I hadnt really added it up before..lol

And made:

Extractors
Turbo pipe and flanges
All intercooler and intake pipes
Exhaust pipes.

If youve got an ecotec, just buy a Eaton M90 and a manifold. Way way easier, cheaper, no pipes to make, you ll just have to get bigger inj and fancy spark plugs. Myabe a fuel pump from a L67 (VS Supercharged).

This Cruiser is now faster than a stock commodore, which is pretty good for a fourby that weighs 1650kg.

I just have to say..... FUCKING AWESOME JOB! Looks great and im sure it goes pretty damn well too!

driveshaft22
Post #20

thanks mate.

Ive decided to put a bigger radiator in it to keep the temp down while hwy towing, so to make enough room Ive relocated the intercooler. I should ve done it this way from the start. Much easier and more efficient pipe work. The pipes arent on in this pic but you can see how short the pipes to and from the intercooler are now.

how u gonna get good air flow thu it tho?

driveshaft22
Post #22

with a big ass bonnet scoop, how else? lol I thought about puttin another thermo fan on it like the WRC cars do. Where it is now there are no exhaust pipes anywhere near it. Last time it ran past the exh twice. It'll be way cooler than that.

pipster11
Post #23

yeah but coolant runs though the manifold so it heats up to atleast 90 deg and heat rises
you could be onto something with the thermo tho

driveshaft22
Post #24

have a look at how close the intercooler pipes were to the exhaust before, its gotta be cooler up top specially with the vents already in the bonnet.

Not necessarily. The big thing here is actually making sure that there is air successfully flowing through the cooler. If it's primarily an off-roading vehicle, then I would say the cooler won't be very effective at all.
Considered W2A intercooling? I think it would be much more effective in your situation.

considering doing this in my hj45 how is power and fuel consumpsion is there any hiden catches did you use marks adaptors for the gearbox/transfer adaptor
