 Leaf Spring Resetting - how and why?

how do they do the leaf spring resetting,do they redo old springs or is it a whole new set

what else is involved at the rear end of the vehicle

i have a 2wd hilux with rear leafs and block lifting seems to be a bit rough for the job

this one interests me.

any help appreciated

its about $90 each one at most places and they redo your oringinal leaf or you can get new ones made for around 500-600. call some suspensions shops and ask they will either do it or they can give you a number .

yeh just flattern them out to pretty much flat if thats what you want

so if i

a. use the old ones off my truck that are "tired" they will sit flatter ,ya?

or

2.take the ones off the truck,bolt them side by side and stick them under the jack leg of a jcb and "reset" them,that'll be it?

NO

what they do is heat the individual leafs up and group them flat whilst they are still hot, they can give them any shape

what you could do is take your leafs out and flip them over so that will lower the car a bit, but i recommend taking your car to a proper suspension shop, they will lower it proper and make sure its good

Take it to a suspension place and get them properly. I had blocks in the back of my ute then got the springs reset and it looks a whole lot neater. The other advantage is when looking at the vehicle from behind the diff is sitting on the springs not on top of a big lowering block which screams "defect me"

how much did they reset the springs by?

there is not a whole load of places that do that here or even know wtf i'm on about,so how much do i tell them to rest them by? dunno.gif

I got mine reset 2.5 inches lower cause the guys at the shop said they will sag a little bit more once they have been in the vehicle.

The guys at redcliffe springs and suspension did mine. I took just the leaf springs in and they had them done in the same day.

my problem being that i am in ireland an no-one does that here at the moment

no-one has really lowered a truck with rear leaf springs,they all do the lowering block effort on mark 2 escorts for rallying but that has its downside and any most people raise their trucks ,my other hilux is 6" + raised,not lower them

One other (nasty) way of doing it, is having the eyes reversed. That lowers you somewhat. But, thats usually done after the leaves are reset.
Surely, even in Ireland, there must be some sort of suspension place around? Or even a blacksmith?

i will find someone somewhere to do it,if all fails,the jcb down on top of them will be the job

if i take one leaf out of the springs what happens,will it not sit down and be bouncy bouncy hsdance.gif

iv got some practicaly new hilux single cab springs that can be reset if you want them?? pm me if ur keen..
