ok. so i finished swapping the efi gear onto my rn85 ute. i had a far bit of issues in getting info so here is a few tips i picked up 1st up there is 2 diffrent efi set ups for the 22r! this is what realy messed with me. the early one is called the 22r-e. this came out on the early coronas (up to 85' i think) and early celicas. Easy way to tell the diff is look at the ecu the 22r-e has a 2 plug type. The second set up is out of the later coronas, it is a 22re ( missing the "-") this has a 3 plug ecu. it is a little more advanced having a knock sensor and O2 sensor. there is a heap of info on this motor if you google it. lots of usa 4wd sites with full write ups. i used the 22r-e set up on mine. the mechanical side of things was fairly simple. i removed the old carb and manifold and replaced it with the efi set up. simple bolt up job. a few lines need to be blocked but thats about it. i ran the fuel pump off a relay as the original would be a pain to wire up ( original runs through the afm) i ran power to the relay and ran the start wire to the alternator so the fuel pump only runs when the charge light is turned on by the alternator ( if you dont get what i mean go to a auto elect. it will cost bugger all to do.) this is important as if you have a crash you dont want the fuel pump to keep running! An important note is that the efi set up runs off 2 wiring looms. one main engine loom and a small section ( running the afm) is wired into the body loom. this is what realy messed with me. so if you can get away with getting a whole car i could be easyer. but it can be done with just the engine wiring. i ran my ignition speed signal to the ecu to run the injectors, this seemed to be the easyest way and works well. ill post up some wiring diagrams and ecu pin outs that could help as well this week. they are all at work atm. i used a vl commo fuel pump. i installed it in place were the previous carb fuel filter was ( half way down the car on the chassis) running the original metel lines and up grading the rubber lines to efi hose. i also used a vn - vr fuel filter so filters will be cheaper that the original toyota items. i had to relocate the battery to the other side of the engine bay to allow the air box to be mounted. i used the original air induction hose and mounted the afm to a sv21 air box wich fits well. i installed the wiring and ecu under the glove box, this still needs some tidying up. thats all i can think of for now. it isnt the biggest job to do and the outcomes include better fuel econ ( i will give a L to 100klm when i get a chance) heaps better throttle reponce and more power. i am yet to give it a full tune to run ultimate as i am still running the set up in and making sure i have it all set up right but at this stage its all good news. ill post up some pics when i get a chance. hope this helps any of you looking to do something like this. i also have a spare efi set up ( manifold, injectors, ecu and engine wiring loom) if anyone needs it Cheers This post has been edited by ljj: Oct 10 2008, 08:15 PM |

not much point in swapping if your running lpg. as the point of swapping to efi is better fuel delivery resulting in more power adn better econ. as you are running lpg that is a diffrent fuel supply system seperate to your regular pump fuel. so basicaly your carb is only acting as a throttle body for the lpg. |

<quote> iv got your original stock standard 22r engine (which is a 4 speed auto btw) but with a pod filter... I was just curious to know (if u dont mind me asking) how much a set up like u have done will cost and how much more performance u get out of it? and is my car been auto an issue? <quote> |
