whats the 1.4x like? do you lose any quality/sharpness?

matt mead
Post #317

im yet to give it a good enough test

im renting a 2x tele this weekend so im going to do some testing tomorrow.

and im shooting a track day on monday so ill know alot more about the 40d and the lens

caseyjohnphotography
Post #318

Damo i had the 2x mk2 and i used it at D.A this year for the 1st time and just quietly it was absolutely appalling whether it was the settings i was using but 90% of my photos were blurry even at reasonably high shutters for entry's

I'm going to purchase a 1.4 mk2 as many photographers have them and from what I've heard / used they are still nice and sharp (used daves @ DA)

What did you do?

Lovely lens the 70-200 2.8 smile.gif I just need to get myself a 1.4x as well! I've heard a lot of negative comments about the 2x

matt mead
Post #321

I heard lots of bad things about the 2.0x tele convertor but to be honest im sold on it... yes image quility is reduced aswell as auto focus speed... but compareing that to my 350d and 55-250 i think its still better...

i jut did a small test standing on the highway..in very overcast conditions i would f stayed longer but it started raining sad.gif

These are all shot with 40d + 70-200 f2.8 and 2x tele convertor

i tested it out wide open at 400mm
IPB Image

Im sold ill let u decide

caseyjohnphotography
Post #322

mmmm, from those i must admit they look rather good matt

so, how are you finding the 20x quicker focusing rather then 350D and 55 200 smile.gif

i'm sure there will be some stage were theres nothing wrong with having both 2x mk2 and 1.4x m2 smile.gif

what filter did you have on 70 200 2.8 with those pics ^

matt mead
Post #323

lets just say im happy about my decisions to upgrade smile.gif but im still struggling to get use to the extra weight but all in good time.

if all goes well on monday with the 2x tele ill be adding one to my kit forsure..

i only have a uv filter on for those shots... i do have a 77mm circuilar polriser but im still yet to use it.

caseyjohnphotography
Post #324

does the poliriser give it that soft effect?

matt mead
Post #325

i dont get what you mean???

polriser i only really use to kill reflections and also when i go really slow with he shutter it helps to stop the sky from blowing out

caseyjohnphotography
Post #326

With those images you posted above and normally all your images they look asif they have a sort of soft glow around the edges, not saying it looks bad but it looks good and i know its a filter

matt mead
Post #327

oh beats me, maybe its my processing techinque..or if its a filter it must be the UV as thats the only one i had on when i took those shots??

Kyl3
Post #328

If it's a cheap shit filter it will give odd halos and things!

UV filters do shit all anyway

Word. Selling my 17-85 and I'm giving my Hoya UV as a freebe.

Great detail, especially in the first volvo one. I rekon they're crisp as mate, any more detail and it'd take me all day to take it in.

Nothing negative to say from me, and as to the halo.. I can't really say I've noticed anything, perhaps Casey is just nuts.

just had a quick look through my photos and processed some shots. New Gear made it a steep learning curve, panning is alot harder with the extra weight of the 70-200 and 40d...i need more practice and my back and arms are quite sore lol... it rained in the middle of the day and i got drenched but the plastci bags worked atreat on the camera....anyway here are some teaser shot before i get a chance to go through the other 2000 shots.

let me know what you think

While i wished i was at bathurst on the weekend, i had to settle for Oran Park lol...Thought i get some more practice in with my new gear so i went out on Saturday for some dirty drift action, no new angles as im just trying to re learn what i was doing before. But im absolutely loving the 40d and 70-200.

Pity that's all we got dickhead.

I and more and more people think archerfield rocks, it's a small tight track so it's good for cars other than big money power machines so you see a lot more on field than the usual's and for any photog, you're instantly on track and you don't need any certification etc..

Archy win Casey loose.

caseyjohnphotography
Post #348

yer, not like i haven't shot archy before

shot there for 2 years straight on track, of course you don't need a certificate there im not stupid?

after 2 years you'll get sick of it, trust me

hope lakeside starts up again, i know it has for a couple of events. Must head out there for some track stuff, i heard there not doing drifting there, way to noisy

nothin like media given out like cake to under age under qualified people that have no idea about the conditions rules or procedures....

matt mead
Post #350

lol, we all have to shot with what we are faced with... as much as i would luv to be able to take snaps at the best race tracks through out the world, its not going to happen so u got to make the most out of what you got unfortunetly and if u get bored of that you need to find new challenge/ angles..
