wow! you paid $280 for that cat and then had it butchered like that by an exhaust shop sad.gif mad conversion... the 1uz is getting more and more popular... let us know how it goes.. my g/f's celsior is slow as (1uz), but that said... it also weighs about as much as 2 180's

Hows that PDF going tongue.gif

Id pick this over RB25 and stuff like that, as you said everyone does SR20s and RBs and things.

Doing this is much better and if you choose to way more power than any SR20 can make tongue.gif

what crossmember did you end up using and what sway bar?

brind0g
Post #74

Gearbox cross member was custom made, u can see it in the above exhaust pics... And the sway bar is one i got from nizzpro in nerang tongue.gif an A31 Cefiro... biggrin.gif fits perfect

Yeah i think i got a lil ripped with the exhaust, but i dont care, sounds tuff, and the exhaust shop was next door to my house... so it was rather hassle free getting it there tongue.gif

Got any mods planned in the future?

Did the cross member cost much to get made up?

brind0g
Post #76

Might doa single turbo setup when ive had enough fun with the N/A V8... but apart from that not really... if i dont get around to single turbo i have a mate who has a super charger ready to bolt on...
Cross member cost me the material and thats it... I had help building the car, and anything that is custom, is made by my mate who helped build it...

Im planning to change the right hand light over to one with the lil opening in it for air... failing that i might utalise the old hole in the front bar from where the intercooler was wink.gif

Now ive been driving the 180 around for a week now, and there is a few things i have to iron out.. for some reason the power steering is very funny... when accelerating, even just the slightest and turning, the assisted side of things just stops... so i manually have to pull the wheel around to return it to centre... could be a wheel alignment doing that aswell.... or maybe running it without fluid when i was building has stuffed it...

Another problem i have to sort out of the handling... it seems to be very "floaty" as a mate put it... he said it handles like a boat...
currently i have lowered king springs with KYB gas shocks and a thicker sway bar... might look at getting strut tower braces for front and back... any other ideas??

eek.gif looking awesome, can't wait to see it in the metal!

I better pull my finger out and work on my rig. Exhaust price was very good, I have had quotes for extractors and full mandrell system between $4-5g from the name shops!

Get some stiffer suspension, Coilovers are the way to go. The power steering prob could have something to do with the boat prob to.

First thing to do is fix the power steering to see how it goes after that but for better handling coilovers are the way to go.

Mundi
Post #96

Love the work you're doing mate, keep it up.
I'm also going to guess that the power-steering has something to do with your boat-like handling, if my memory serves then the Uzfe isn't a particularily heavy engine.

brind0g
Post #97

Yeha hopefully i dont have to rip the motor out to replace the power steering, im also looking at getting a rear strut tower brace and thicker sway bar for the back... And ill get fulcrum to then look at it all and replace all old bushes... hopefully that will sort it out...

brind0g
Post #98

The car still is 100% finished.. Been rather busy with Bathurst and Indy... But i have been ironing out bugs... One of the bigger things that is really frustrating me is the 30amp fuse for the thermo fan keeps blowing.... causing the car to over heat rather quickly and blow out all its radiator juice!! NOT HAPPY!! So for the moment ive just ripped out the fuse all together... will have to re-wire i think...
Apart from that just need to hook up the tacho and speedo, then get it mod plated..

brind0g
Post #99

Well the car is nearly finished, picking up an analog dash this arvo, then waiting on speedo cable... Once that is all in, just gotta replace some rear subframe bushes and raise the sway bar a bit... its hanging at about 70mm from the ground at the mo.
Car has already been mod plated..
Then the fun begins... S13 silvia front goes on soon too

QUOTE(LXS-180 @ Apr 9 2008, 09:39 AM)

hey Guys n Girls...
After seeing the gathering at the spit on Sunday arvo i really wanted to join the club as im a local for the gold coast and just baught my new ride.

Its a 180sx (dont judge me yet!! tongue.gif) but i have plans for it...

1UZFE...

Thats right kiddies... a 4L, Quad Cam, 32 Valve V8 biggrin.gif

My mate has a Mazda MX5 with this motor currently in it, along with an RX7 (series 5) 5 Spd Manual in it, being managed by a Motec Computer... He wants to upgrade as he says the 4L isnt big enough, so he will probs be putting in a 6L LS2 or sumthing like that...

Hes going to sell me his motor, gearbox, and computer for $3.5K and help me install it for not too much more smile.gif

This wont be happening till around July as a few weeks ago, he got attacked by a widow maker (9" angle grinder) and completly severed all the tendons for his fingers on his right hand. And tendons dont have a blood flow, so they take a while to re-gain all their strength

Apart from the motor conversion, i dont want the car to be too over the top... thinking of doing some sort of light conversion for the head lights as i dont realy like the pop up lights...

Not sure about paint yet either...

Any suggestions will be warmly welcomed smile.gif

Hope to meet some of you soon !

Andy B

To get rid of the pop up headlights, I'd suggest a S15 front end conversion.

A wide body kit would also go nicely, along with some DEEP dish rims.

Keep up updated, would be interesting to see one of these with a V8 drool.gif

Just read the rest of the posts.... motor is already in!

HOLY SHIT!

That is cool smile.gif

Good job

Awesome Conversion smile.gif

Oh 1 thing I noticed tho was someone said that an mx5 with a 1uz makes it a bullet roadster. There is alot more to a bullet roadster then just an engine conversion, I dont know details but from memory the doors are the only original panels. Different chassis, suspension, panels blah blah blah, check out some of the reviews on them.
