YOU CANT! they think it is either the manifold where the wastegate mounts up or the gate isn't big enough. Even with the run in tune when they put the foot down it just keeps boosting up and up |

QUOTE(RetardedMonkey @ Aug 1 2008, 03:15 PM) $10 on gate not being big enough! I get the car back for the w/end but it will still have 4000rpm limiter and be on run in tune. Next week manifold comes off and they're going to move the external gate mount and that "should" resolve it, if not it'll be the gate |

QUOTE(summoner @ Aug 1 2008, 06:09 PM) i'm running a 50mm gate on a 6boost custom manifold. He hasn't made 1 with runners this big before. Monday we hack off the wastegate mount and are making changes Hmmmm, just to set the record straight, your manifold is 36mm ID the same as all my ford manifolds, I was asked to build a bigger runner manifold at the same time as yours, and as I had no car to work of, HiTorque were meant to send me a manifold off someones car that just cleared the mount so that I could use it as a reference, but after 3 weeks of waiting and calling I never got it, they told me not to worry abou tit. So your manifold is the same as others. On the boost control front, I advised at the time of manufacture that it would not control boost with this gate size, and was told that it worked on the setup they had so they were going to use it, or that the customer didn't want to spend more money replacing the gat ethey had or something. You will definately need a bigger gate, the only way around it would be to mount your gate off the turbine housing, which is fine, not at all dodgy and in fact something I prefer to do when customers let me. I would be happy to help in any way I can, I am by no means blaming hitorque for anything, so if it sounded that way, its not the case, just making it known that I did advise that gate wouldn't control boost on that setup. Feel free to call me on 0410 730 598 if there is something I can do to help. On another note, simple way of bringing the boost down if you want to run the drag day this weekend is disconnect the BOV, this will bleed off enough boost for the gate to accurately control boost to whatever pressure you choose. While some will say this sounds dodgy, we are not talking about the NIZPRO style where the BOV is the sole form of boost control, the bov in this cas need to bleed very little to drop the boost down to controllable levels. Then after this weekend, get the manifold to me or fix it properly. Cheers............................6BOOST |

Good luck with the custom manifold in the next few weeks 6boost. Will be happy to see that result |

My view point comes mostly from what i get passed on from kent and i am sure he skips through a lot of the details due to being busy/time. If i have to buy a new waste gate this doesnt bother me as i like to make sure things are done properly especially when this much time/money is invested in to it all. I'll pass it on the kent that i'll spend the extra and just try another gate before anything else gets done. |
