As my wireless triggers are yet to turn up...ive been playing around with some of my pictures in photoshop

Before:
straight from the camera as JPG...didnt touch anything...

IPB Image

After:
little play around in both light room and photoshop...i luv the intense colours

IPB Image

ok let me know your thoughts??? too much playing??

Nice colours, it really makes the car pop. I do prefer the original though, it's more subdued.

Also, watch out for posterization in the gradients of the clouds its pretty noticeable in the edited shot. When working with 8bit JPEGS you have to be really careful with editing too much - there's not a lot of color information to play with (hence the posterization)

matt mead
Post #74

thanks chris..i didnt notice that in the clouds before until you mentioned it wink.gif maybe ill have to start shooting in raw and get some ore memory cards

chris_F
Post #75

yea definitely shoot in raw, it makes a huge difference when it comes to fine tuning your photos (exposure, white balance etc.). Once you get the hang of it it actually makes things easier too.

matt mead
Post #76

yeah i use to... its just that it takes ages to upload say 2000 pictures onto my pc

chris_F
Post #77

oh true, once I went raw I could never go back, but I can see why it'd be different with motor sport photography. I guess you could always take a few shots in raw+jpeg mode and see if it's worth going back to shooting raw.

I have found myself shooting raw for motorsport just isn't worth it takes up far too much room on your cards and theres no huge advantage i mean for photoshoots etc it would be great but motorsport stuff ain't that technical in an editing sense, well not for me anyway.

chris_F
Post #79

yea, I guess it's only important if you plan on processing the image a fair bit.

matt mead
Post #80

yeah, thats the big thing... the average punter would be happy to see the normal jpeg i posted...but i think magazines and stuff want something that pops... who knows.. it wouldnt of been a porblem in that pictures if i had an ND filter over the lenses...as i had to lower the exposure in lightroom after quite abit due to the slow shutter... i have an ND filter now and im going to try it out this sunday and see how it goes..

Nick_
Post #81

good luck with it, I'm interested to see how level with the horizon you can stay with it tongue.gif

matt mead
Post #82

haha ....nah i wont be bring out the grad one...the track doesnt suit it dont get much sky...the next wakfield day ill give it a try... im going to try and bust out some 1/30 drift pans....so the ND filter will stop it from being overexposed

glad ur happy matt smile.gif

should be good to see your pics once u get ur triggers

Lance
Post #84

So should have got a Hoya Polariser rather than ND filters tongue.gif although ND rock for arty plus landscape shots

matt mead
Post #85

hahah... dont you worry lance ones coming in the mail tongue.gif

playing around with the 50mm

too much aperture and i cut the ear off lol..

Also the eyes are a little out of focus for my liking

Nick_
Post #89

Yeah, the eyes should be the focal point. Would've been nice at 2.4 or 2.8.

I love this little lens, I keep it on more than my 17-85!

Lance
Post #90

Nah the aperture is good, just the focal point needs to be changed imo

matt mead
Post #91

Lance
Post #93

nice shot.

matt mead
Post #94

i look on a good screen and its way to dark... il fix it up when i get home and post some more up

Nick_
Post #95

It looks brilliant, don't get me wrong..

Maybe I'm too far involved in the PP and not ever letting a shot be in it's 'neutral' state.

On my monitor it may need a bit of a brighten, and some contrast, and saturation-desat on BG.. and some burning tongue.gif

DAMN IT!
