QUOTE(mason @ Mar 20 2008, 08:05 PM) wats an auto locker werth...how come i shouldnt go bigger then 31s on p plates...both those 4x4s look sic..i do a lot of high way driveing will the bigger wheels compensate for the lower diff gears..my car sits onabout 2700rpm on 100km hour .i dont want it reveng to hard caus of the price of fuel at the moment..thnks for the help Because anything over 31s is illegal and with a P plate on you are already a target Yes bigger wheels will lower the RPM but you will actually use more fuel, the reason is the vehicle is out of its torque range so you will need more right boot or drop down gears up hills, and just to hold speed due to the larger rolling resistance. Up to 32 seems to be alright without diff gears but 33s and over really do need it done imo. The auto lockers range in price and a lot of people will tell you buy an air locker or fit it to the rear. IMO a $500 lokka brand from 4wd Systems in the front is the way to go. It totally transforms the vehicle offroad without affecting on road characteristics, and it also allows you to crawl stuff offroad which means less damage and breakages. Most people break diffs in IFS due to coming down back to ground with wheels spinning. A locker means the car will keep driving when it lifts a front wheel which IFS does much to reguarly. |

We have had a few holdups on the front so I have started on the rear. Old mounts and bumpstops are cut out and its ready to weld in the new ones. The new springs are longer and have moved the rear diff back. I am just waiting on the crossmember for the rear inverted shock setup and I will finish the rear off. |

I wouldve thought coil would travel better? |

QUOTE(sc00by @ Apr 1 2008, 08:27 PM) Hi everyone, i own a ifs triton dual cab, how hard is it to install a LOKKA to the front diff? Im not very mechanicaly minded but willing to giv it a fair shot. Is it worth spending money on a IFS 4wd or biteing the bullet and going for a coil sprung solid diff one? Cheers Trent If your not very mechanically minded probably best not to do it. They are not hard by any means but they do require a little knowledge. In relation to keeping or selling its up to you, mine was never really a drama as IFS it caused a few scary angles at times but with lockers and the right line never failed to follow the solid axle trucks. If you intend to go full hardcore or comps in the future and you have not dropped too much money into it already then look at upgrading. If its just weekend warrior social wheeling, then lift it, lock it and have fun keeping up with the big boys in the underestimated rig. |

thanks booflux and hoon69 for your comments, is there any way to get more flex or travel out of ifs? like different brands or is it just all about the same, gets a bit freeky when suddenly a wheel gets thrown a foot off the ground. and is there any way to keep the water out of your cabin whilst doing creek/river crossings? |

Cheers Trent Abit of knowladge goes along way when doing the lokka even though the instructions are easy to follow and good detail. I have them in my hilux front and rear. Listen to booflux on the IFS stuff he is the king in this area A coil sprung soild front end or IFS depends on how hard you want to go imo. |
