Just curious, is your boost controller electronic or like the Turbosmart dual stage with the switch ??

I am getting a EBC for my car and your answer will affect whether i mount the controller in view or away from policemen eyes.

Cheers

You should fix your car too. It wont take too much work or $$$ -

Put a standard bonnet back on
make sure you have hoses into your pcv valve and back before the turbo wink.gif wink.gif
direct the screamer pipe back into the exhaust system
put an extra high flow muffler to cut down the exhaust noise

Some do, most get off on having the power and using it to be a @#$!.

I can see this, as alot of other police powers now, is going to be abused.

ok let me clear this up for u all, i have 4 gauges and 4 shift lights on my bonnet. i for one dont want hot oil on my face if it were to brake, i think the windscreeen is a better option. plus there is no way in hell the gauges would do any more damage then teh car would itself to a pedestrian, u can neally push my gauges off with a feather haha. its just another thing to defect. id be happy to remove them if someone was to provide me with a just reason as to why they shouldnt be there. " becuase u will get finend" aint enough lol.

so what about superchragers hanging out?

use decent gauges that have remote sensors,

Like i said i think its great, Because if the officer "accidently" gives you a defect+court apperance for something that may not actually be a defect, It will be rectified by the courts.

You might loose your car for 48 hours but atleast you wont loose your licence over something that shouldnt have happened.

I'm so glad someone has said this.....I have a case for your then where it could have happened (I was lucky at the time). On the 8th July I was pulled over as part of RBT & was told by a police officer my ute was illegal BECAUSE it had lowering blocks in the rear - clearly visible. I commented to the police officer taht it was stated in the Department of Transports "Guidelines to Modifying Vehicles" issued 2007 that lowering blocks constructed of steel or aluminium were permitted. To this he said "Nah....sorry mate they ARE ILLEGAL!". As it turns out there were some other things which weren't quite right so they had me pull to one side & had the DOT boys do the inspection. Once all was sorted I asked both DOT boys (whom I might add were great guys, pleasant attitude & very easy to talk with - unlike the coppers) about the lowering blocks.....to which the senior of the two said.."Let me grab the booklet & we'll check that." He grab a copy he was carrying in his inspection vehilce, flicked to the page reffering to lowering & low & behold clearly stated on the page it said "Lowering blocks are permitted if they are steel or aluminium". Needless to say a politely asked if the inspectors could re-educate the officer who was misinformed. (don't know if they did - I wasn't going to hang around to find out)

What relevance does this have? How many people has/will this officer book(ed) for this specific defect alone who have copped it sweet & gone along with it? I'll be buggered if I'm going to loose my transport, incur costs in getting myself to work, as well as what it costs me in time off work to go to court to get it cleared when it should not have been applied in the first place! I don't get compensated for these additional costs incurred! The copper doesn't get disciplined for it & is free to keep clogging up the legal system with bogus defects.

Can I suggest that if you feel that you are right and the coppers are wrong than before you think about Court you might like to address a letter to the Superintendant of Traffic in the area you got the ticket and ask him to have the matter investigated. Supply all the evidence you think supports your arguement.

This costs you nothing. They will put the ticket on hold and have it investigated.

Nothing to lose this way facesjump.gif

Hi Everyone

I've been getting on to boostcruising.com for a fair while now but haven't had a lot to say which is why this is my first post.

I guess I like to cut to the chase so to speak, and this is really the one burning question that's been plaguing me for a while now.

I was just wondering, given these new laws, is there any point to us continuing to have modified cars?

From the ADRs pretty much all aftermarket exhausts are illegal (reducing the effectiveness of the existing exhausts silencing) and since that's pretty much a pre-requisite for modifying the rest of the car (less flow restriction generally equals less noise restriction), no matter how much we try to play within the rules and many mod plates we get for other work that one item will still be illegal under the regulations. So is there a point to even bothering?

From what I've been reading everyone has been dancing around this question for a while, so I figured I'd just go ahead and ask it.

I don't see why you wouldnt still modify your cars. The laws that are in place here in Australia are still very lenient compared to many other places in the world.

It will just change how you go about modifying your car and hopefully stop alot of the poor workmanship done.

You can still get some power out of an exhaust without having to have a 30 foot cannon on the back of your car.

Mr-RX
Post #375

It seems the people who are effected by these laws are too much of a soft cock to pull down there engine and do some serious work.

As far as im amare you dont need mod plates to do internal work, And it clearly states your allowed extractors. There is a bit of power in itself.

Besides who cares about power, Go out and buy your ricey body kits and shiny big wheels, Tint your windows and plaster your car with stickers. These are 100% legal and it seems that 80% of the young ones do this anyway.

So you may as well follow the trend, You'll be cool and legal!

Then when your on your opens, Bolt on a turbo and away you go.

SINCE YOU DIDNT READ MY PREVIOUS POST REGARDING THIS EXACT TOPIC, HERE IT IS AGAIN!!!!

YOU CAN MODIFY YOUR EXHAUST SYSTEM AND STILL MEET THE ADR's. ITS WRITTEN QUITE CLEARLY WITHIN THE ADR MODIFICATION LISTS AS PER BELOW!!!!

Well, since its been brought up a few times, regarding the fines for modifcation of a vehicles silencing device, I strongly suggest you visit the DOTARS website.

There are specific guidelines for vehicle modifiction, which must comply with ADR's. That said, and this coming direct from DOTARS...

Modified Exhaust Systems

When exhaust systems are modified, proof of compliance with the relevant ADR or in-service vehicle rule is required. (refer Approval Code LT4 - Noise Emissions Test)

So in order for it to be legal, all it requires is it pass the noise test for the year of make of your vehicle.

Somehow I think taking a document from DOTARS to court, if defected for modifying a silencing device, the judge would not be too impressed with the officer wasting the courts time.
