they work off an optical slave system dont they? or is it radio signal?

Fisher
Post #912

They use both optical and radio - the built in will always fire, there is nothing you can do about it. Thankfully it only fires at about 1/128th power so there is no real impact on the shot, it has never been an issue for me. That SB-800 is a bloody great flash! I just wish mine was working sad.gif I have sent it off to Nikon, god knows when i'll get the bloody thing back!

Cheers for the feedback on the shot - I am out of practice! I need to get some shooting in some time soon. The sharpness issues are from the re-size which was done on the hosting site. Bad idea!

Just get good spot, put the camera on ISO 100, f/8 and set it to aperture priority, whack it on ur tripod and use the remote to shoot and you'll be sweet.

the ppl seem to be a bit out of focus but it doesn't hurt the photo much at all.

I really like how the blown out areas highlight the shape of the ppl and the shadows really draw the eye to them aswell.

Top stuff (like all your work)

i like it, agreed with chris, but still nice

Doesn't work wonders for me. In my opinion, between the obvious blown out street, car park whatever and the darkness around you there is nothing that keeps me looking.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's nothing special going on in terms of light. Just two extremes and no... result in the 'middle' - mainly because of the defocused people.

I would call it a promising peach with minty toothpaste in the centre. There are good elements there but it just didn't 'happen'.

Harry, would you have any idea what it costs to have your image sensor professionally cleaned, by Nikon techs I guess? My brush went overboard and I have dibilitating dust smudges. Still shots 250-odd shots the other day but mostly f/2.8 to f/5.6 etc.

I got mine done for $35 and it only took an hour. I was very happy with the outcome.

Thanks heaps for all the feedback, I see what u mean about the OOF people. I had a look at the original and they are as sharp as a tack, the OOF appearance came in the pp, I might have another crack at fixing that. I agree with what Parko said, I did find that it lacked any strong middle ground, it is a bit too 2D.
I think I'm a bit out of practice when it comes to recreational shooting.

Harry

I found the comp in this shot works a little better:

A couple of others, not very good but still worth getting feedback on:

I actually prefered the comp in the first picture you posted - if the guy on the left was slightly further to the left it would have been even better. The second one of the same scene lacks a focal point compared to the first.

I like the colour tones in the one of coffee bean sacks and you've used the bench well to draw the eye to the subject in the one before it.

coffee one rocks, may i ask with the dude with the coke bottle, was he asleep or something, did he hear your camera??? ive always wondered if people get pissed off? tongue.gif

Cheers for the feedback mate, that guy was holding a coke bottle full of spray paint, he was chroming and was so high he couldn't stand u. He had no idea i was stitting next to him with a camera, he couldn't see! He's one of the easy ones though, I have been chased in London by a drunk bum and sworn at in South Africa by kids on the street who wanted money for the phot. In general though, people are often just too polite to say anything and let it go.

Chris, thanks for the great feedback mate, I agree with on on all points, I need to find a better location so I can get shots with more even lighting and better R-O-3rds comp.

I had to go back into the city a few days ago so i thought it'd be a good time to get some more shots.
I was only shooting for about 25mins as I was in a rush. Here's what I came up with:

i like 5, and 9 The B& W is a good touch in Photo number 9 Great DOF

And with 5 i really like the maze effect with all the esculators crossing over.. i'd like to see it maybe in B&w to take out the distracting shop scenery? seems to make it a tad busy.

Thnx, Adz

You must get some weird looks tongue.gif

I like the one on the train

JUC33
Post #943

i woulda said that the shot of the man on the bench could have been from as slightly lower angle, but maybe this was not possible.

i quite like the DOF of the coffee shot, the tones enhance it well.

prefer your last photo on the feet on the train out of thew last lot. think it contrasts well and is a simple composition.

I think the second last has potential, just a little flat at the moment.

I totally agree, i think i need to get to a good computer some time soon (I am between computers right now, it sucks ass!) and have a play around with it some more!

Cheers for all the feedback, all taken on board.
