One annoying thing is that she only has one shoe on..

Not enough expression coming from her face

vp_s_wagon
Post #878

Yeah, the one shoe is a necessity because the ad is for "toeless" stockings (the idea being that you can wear them with strapy shoes - like stilettos) so you have to be able to see how they work and what they look like, hence using a on the other foot.
She is a bit boring in her expressions, i agree, but she looks crap pulling any other face tongue.gif

Yet again, Great work Harry!

In the street set I'm lovin the two carpark ones! the sepia effect looks great on the second one of those.

The 2 shots for the toeless stockings are great, #2 is my fave out of those ones, I think it works best for what those photo's will be trying to sell as your eyes look at her legs & feet first which is where you are seeing the product.

top work Harry
nice street shots

harry, i don't often compliment ur shots, but those 2 of the model are pretty good!

altho, i reckon they would have been outstanding if you had just kept in mind ur exposure. I reckon you need to use a bit more power in the flash or open up the apature a bit, just to make sure you get a good dynamic range by checking the histogram. the skin tones just look a bit messy because of this. Location looks the goods, and i know nothing about posing so i can't comment there

I love coming in here and just looking at your photos mate.

All look pretty damn good if you ask me.

One day I'd like to be up to the level of experience you've had. You've tried so many different types of photography and the list seems endless.

Keep up the good work smile.gif

Thanks heaps for the kind words Matt and Intgrad, that is great to hear that you like them

Matt, I have some others which I haven't processed yet with more power from the lights and also some with 2 lights. They might be better.
I see what you mean though, her skin was an issue in the PP, it is not as smooth as i would have liked and I am pretty shit at smoothing.

A bit of an update:

Some street shots from around Perth.

I still have no idea how I pulled this one off. It was handheld with the 17-55/2.8 @ 55, 1/5th sec!

1 and 2 are a little bit boring, i guess only bnecause the third one is fucking awesome, very nice composition and the viginetting on the corners makes it look cool as, great work on it man

parko
Post #885

^ Agreed.

To me the 1st, 2nd and 4th look like a report/survey of inner-city Perth.

3rd has artistic flair and good editing. The [somewhat] vertical white strip connecting to the large horizontal white standing area brings a little balance to an otherwise top heavy composition. Not my style, but overall I like.

great set again harry,

#1 i think is lacking a bit of punch, the subject isn't anywhere near as effective as the others and than the pp seems very basic to previous ones.

#2 i quite like if you could of get the door way square in the frame(probably not possible as the yellow lines don't look square to the building which would just f888 everything up) also the person almost fades into the black area at the bottom of the walk way there.

#3 is shit hot, it is a great angle, the lines break it up. the whole shot is just great.

#4 like number 3 i love. perhaps not as great as 3 but i just love that angle its taken from and the viginetting suits it perfect.

great set though, i bet you'll be back at that station for some more shots.

Cheers for the great feedback Tyler, #3 seems to be a winner. The other two definitely need work though.

your work is consistantly good Harry - especially your street photography.

This one from the lingerie shoot really caught my eye:

I think it's the eye contact that does it, the lighting is bold aswell.

Harry, just wanna know your thoughts on the SB-800... and do you think is it worth going all the way to the 800 as opposed to the cheaper SB-600?

The 800 being the monster it is including bounce soften cover, colour filter sets, etc. $509 it'll cost me.

That's a fantastic shot. What ISO was that?

EDIT:

Did you used to enter the Whirlpool Photography Competitions?

vp_s_wagon
Post #897

Hey Nate, awesome to see you on here.

The SB-800 is the shiz, buy it, just ask moment - he has both and reckons the 800 shits on the 600.

It was shot at ISO 800 and I didn't enter the whirlpool comps.

Yeah, I think I will now rather than end up upgrading again later.

I read up on Nikon's PDF brochures and I see now it's quite the monster! Plus I like that they include a colour filter set and diffusion dome.

vp_s_wagon
Post #899

Yeah, it is a fair beast! Those filters are brilliant, I always use them when balancing ambient light from different sources. The dome is great too.

I like the shot as well.

But when i was commenting on it on the Canon Forum i found the man too dark and plan. Just like you cut a hole in to the photograph.

Nah, I used the "report" function as shown here: https://www.boostcruising.com/forums/index....howtopic=217016

Thanks for the great comments everyone!
Sith: I was kinda going for the silhouette approach in that shot - hence the darkness.
47ACK: Cheers mate, that was exactly what I was aiming to do biggrin.gif

I have actually re-edited that one - just straightened and a bit of cloning:

IPB Image

I think it looks better - the old one was a bit crooked and had some weird green bits from the fluro lights.
The only thing I'm pissed about is that the colors got a bit screwed up when I did it. Oh well.

Just a candid I snapped last night - it was taken in basic jpeg with just a tiny bit of brightening in terms of pp

Detail looks a bit molested (noise reduction maybe?).

Sort of looks like film shot with a cruddy lens to be honest. Still decently sharp.

Quick question regading SB-800 and D80 Harry, I can't seem to stop the built-in flash firing when using the SB-800 remote and wirelessly. Took me a couple of hours before I figured out you must have the built-in flash popped up.

I'll have in commander mode for example

Built-in Flash ---- ----
Group A------TTL +0.3

Which as far as I understand should only fire the SB-800? The pop-up flash is clearly firing, though it's not making any real impact.

Just to be sure, is there any way of having remote flashes fire without the pop-up flash up?
