QUOTE(53XEH @ Nov 8 2006, 07:24 PM) nice shots, loving the 3rd city one, perfect time of day for it, maybe a little earlier mighta been better (or not i dunno) and the amount of noise at 2500 is awesome! mine u can't really go past 1000 - 1600 tops without it looking shitty, and i bet my camera cost a lot more than urs lol (although it's ooooooooold now) Really?? I thought the 5D would be really good with noise. Yeh, mine costs about $1700 for the body, yours is $4500, bit of a difference! I was waiting for that lighting for about 40 mins. I took some earlier, but they were shit because the lights in the buildings were turned off. Trust me, that was as early as I could get away with. Thanks for the feedback Harry |

QUOTE(parko @ Nov 8 2006, 10:12 PM) Quick question, Harry... Just wondering what size SD card you're using? Apart from the mediocre 32MB SD card supplied, all I have at the moment is a Panasonic 2GB SD with a 5MB per/s write (if I can remember correctly). 262 exposures in FINE L and 161 expposures in RAW. Not much. Gonna be a problem overseas. I figure I'll stock up in Hong Kong or sort out an alternative to buying a shitload of cards. I just use a laptop when I get the chance. When I go to europe in 3 weeks I may consider taking a spare card. I use a Sandisk 2gb Ultra II with a 10mb/s speed which I am happy with, I also have a Sandisk 256, 128 and 32 for backups (Just ones I had lying around the house). I always just zoom into my shots using the LCD and delete any shit ones on the camera so I don't have to sift through lots of shitty photos in RAW and delete them because of all the lag. Also, there are not many times when I take that many shots. It is not unusual for me to go out for a whole night and only come home with 5-10 shots on my camera... I am a perfectionist. I get it right. If I make a mistake, I delete it and do it again. I only ever had a 1gb for my D50 The closest I have come to filling the card was when I did 110 shots at the veledictory dinner. I kept 94 of them. I spose it just depends how u shoot. But I probably should get another 1gb or 2gb card (perhaps not high-speed) as a backup while I'm there. Harry |

I am just sucjh a genius that I don't need to study Nah I take photos, starting at about 10pm, then come home round 1am. So i do photos after study. I have 2 exams left too. Harry |

Harry You're going to Europe in 3 weeks... you're shittin' me? I leave December 14 for Thailand, China then the usual Norway and Sweden. That's why I had been so frantic about getting my camera. At one stage I tought I wouldn't get my D80 'til late Nov. That would've been horrible. After recieving my lenses today and having a play around all afternoon I did much of the same, just delete all the crap (which were nearly all from today... haha) but I may look into some external memory. |

(now i know ur my age im a little more frustrated bout how forward u were ) lol, age is not a factor on this site. Ronza is two years younger than me (16!) but he kicks the shit outta me any day. I have been doing it about 4 1/2 months, so I am still very much a noob (IMO) Harry |

(bloody contrast nazi) im heading off to canada at the end of november as well, three weeks in the snow should be fun. gonna have the camera with me. Yeh I have taken lots of shots 4 months. I will be in South Africa for 2 weeks, UK for 4 weeks, France for 3, contiki tour for 12 days - 8 countries, UK 2 weeks, home. So it is roughly 3 months all up. Should be awesome. I'll hopefully be gitting some good pics while i'm there Harry |

(until the storms come gauranteed lightning) Yeh, different places for different people I spose. I used to live in africa so i'm a little attached and I get a 5 star hotel room paid for me by my dad's company while im in the UK so that'll be sweet! (Last time my dad was there Jennifer Aniston and the King and Queen of Belgium were staying there. Hopefully I can do a bit of Paparazzi!!) It's not actually a tour. It's just going to places. No guides, no bus nothing. Just accomodation and flights which I booked. I have already run outta shit in perth... It sucks! I'll try and post up some good shit as I go. if not I'll just post it when I get back. I'll only put up the best ones, but i'll do it bit-by-bit over a couple of weeks. Harry |

Look 4ward to seeing what you produce. I got my D-SLR when I was in Europe on Contiki (bad taxi memory with the old film one). Just make sure you have insurance as well. Perths still has places, you just need to look harder or get re-motivated. Sometimes your best work comes when you think there's nothing left to take... - Mick |

Did you take these ?? Sorry, they just don't look like your normal quality Too much cropping, too many lense flares, needs a polariser on the gauges and the white balance looks out (unless you wanted that look)....sorry mate. |

Cam It is actually exactly what I was looking for. I purposley got the lens flare and I cranked up the temp heaps on RAW so that I could get that sepia sorta tinge in them. I wanted them to look vintage. That's also why I over-cropped that 1st one. So that I could cut the back of the VZ commo out of the frame... Not and ideal plce to be doing them... I will put up one that has not had the WB changed so u can see what I mean. I take it u don't particularly like this style. No probs. This is the kinda shit I want to know, so that I know what not to do next time. Harry |

I was going to suggest sepia+++ing them up... but most people don't seem to like that. I know you're not into PS much, but maybe if you went for a more sinister/ghostly effect, they might have a bit more impact via atmosphere. Particularly 2 + 3. Make use of the emptyness and age and get it to work for you instead of documenting it. Just some suggestions of what might pick then up a little... I liked 1 and 4 best, but the steering wheel breaking the dash became distracting in the last one. I could see what you were going for, but I think you needed a few tries with different angles before you got there. Did you take any others of the dash that you can post? It's a really good subject. Do you know the owner? #1 has been done on a GREAT angle, but a couple of steps back would have helped give just enough breathing space.. - Mick Yeh, I am starting to regret not doing number 1 a bit further back. Bit of a bugger. Oh well, I met the guy who's car it is and it is only about a 2 min drive from my place so I could probably go back. I don't want to do full sepia, it is too cliché I far prefer this effect. It looks so much less fake. My PS was done on camera (kinda) I shot the back seat ones at ISO 1600 and under-exposed them, hoping to get some noise... apparently it doesn't want to, and I am reluctant to use filters. I hate doctoring images any more than you can do on the RAW processing. You are welcome to have a crack at it though. I can send u the un-WB one or the WB originals (I have to warn you, they are un-cropped 10.2mp JPEG's so they are between 6.5mb and 8.5mb each). I do have another dash one, but I don't like it, so I wasn't going to put it up. Here it is though. Yes I did mean to over-expose the windows in every shot. I don't want to show the boring, modern suburban street outside the car. I want to keep the mood. Twist, I gotta try and find someone willing to get into that car in clean clothes first! Nickle, Don't worry the V8 Vantage shots are on their way soon This is the car I'll doing a shoot of soon: |
