Dunno how I missed this one ages ago, must be hiding amongst your other good work, but this one is very well done!

IPB Image

I did one of these recently and apparently the overpass I was on was a touch too busy...nothing but a shakey shots. I put it down to either a crap tripod or too many heavy buses!

You have done very nicely with this one tho, as well as all the others. Keep it up Harry!

The new lens looks like a lot of fun. Would be awesome with a water cam. People from school have been having some fun with those lately but I haven't had a chance so I'm so jealous.
But yeah they're looking good Harry. Of the two undecided hippie ones I think I'm going to go against the crowd and say I like the uncropped one. I think its because their faces are blurred making them part of the whole effect of the shot..

Casey,
Cheers mate, it's good fun.

Twist,
Lol, yeh.
Don't worry mate. I know when the fisheye is not needed (most of the time!)
I just wanted to test the little bugger out. I only got it for a certain style of shot. Although I wouldn't mind doing this one--> IPB Image
with a fisheye. Just to see how it looks, if the lights bend around the fisheye etc.

PSI,
Yeh I buggered that one up with the flash on the top. I did one too many (flashes) and it screwed the two shadows up.
Cheers for the feedback.

Jimeegee,
Yeh I normally think that kind of shot is a bit simplistic unless it actually has good lines (not just some lights, going anywhere!) that lead niceley through the shot. So when I walked over that overpass i thought. Why not!
The heavy tripod helps heaps, I had heaps of busses going over when i did it and I was fine. Maybe try weighting it down a bit. Also remeber to use a very small aperture so u get nice clean lines and not glare or over-exposure.

Nickle,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
It is great fun using the fisheye. Come and try it out some time soon.
I had never thought of that with the un-cropped. i agree. I think I am going to keep it like that.
Thanks Heaps.

Cheers for all the feedback. I love it when people make the effort. Thanks.

Yeh I know what u mean. It can get old fast.
The only reason I had so many done with it is because it was the 1st day I had it.

The only type of pics i will be using it for are ones that I cant do with the normal 18-55.
Like this one. It was too close so I needed the fisheye's wide angle --->

I think in the first pic the third shadow/person on the right hand side was too much the just the two would have looked better imo.

I have had some mixed responses to my graffiti silhouette shots. Some have said they like them some have said they don't, no real middle ground.
I was just wondering what people think of them and if they think I should persue that style.

If u like them, I found an awesome place to try some more out...
Here:

I was thinking about doing some shots kinda like this:

What do u think, should I keep up this style (as well as all the other stuff I do) or go for something different?

Cheers
Harry

i love that style of photography there are a few places like that in brisbane (if you live here)

Some pretty nice new additions Harry, did one of my shots last month inspire ya? laugh.gif

The fisheye effect is great especially if you can't go wide enough, unfortunately the image quality seems to degrade when you've thrown the adapter on. You seem to use the effect well though, I've had a quick play with a mates 10.5 fish on the D2x - very cool stuff, its a crying shame Canon don't offer a lens like that.

The light painting doesn't do much for me, the scene is relatively interesting and the flashes don't add meaning or interest to the scene IMO. Your multiple silhouettes look like the by product of light painting, a single silhouette would work better.

vp_s_wagon
Post #369

Thanks heaps for that feedback Ronza,
When u refer to the painting with light, do u mean the sillhouettes or the other stuff I did before?
I'll try some with single or no sillhouettes.
Yeh that fisheye is pretty crappy quality, but the images I am doing with it are not supposed to be high detail so I'm not too fussed. I am going to buy a decent fisheye soon, like this one: http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_al...amp;navigator=4
which is also made with a canon mount.

Oh ok. So by Painting with light u mean the flash around the sillhouette? How do u think I should get the sillhouette (just one not 3) then? Or do u think I should just ditch them and take the photo just of the tank with the graffiti?

I did another one of My Big ole' Pano's, what do u think??

I know it's similar to the other one but it's heaps better quality when u zoom in on the full-res version, and it's also with a blue sky this time.

Yeh, I should try it then. Not sure what it would look like though, it is about 10km inland (remember where the sunset is over here).

i got ArcSoft Panorama Maker 3 it pretty good but i have no pic yet.

Nice quality Fish.
I like the blue sky more than the orange ones from before. It's more like the real thing.

And i think if it were right on sunset the sun would be too far to the right? Is that true? It would probably be a lot harder to stitch with that much small detail too...

Do you do your pano's in Manual, or do you use AE Lock on your camera?

Puzzle Man,
Let me know if it is any Good because my lag with a 15,000x1,900 pixel image in RAW on photoshop is something chronic!! Especially considering I use a laptop.
To give you some idea of the resolution I am working with, This is the shed on the very right-hand side, in full-res:

Nickle,
Yeh I'm liking the blue. The orange sky in the other one was not photoshopped, it was actually like that, it's just the suburban lights, lighting up the clouds.
I'm not sure about sunset. Worth a shot though.

Lance,
Where?? I'll get rid of the bastard!
I use full manual, that way u get the same settings in all ur shots and they match up better.

Ghetto,
Cheers mate, they are pretty easy to take, it's the stitching that sucks.

Cheers for the feedback,
Harry
