Probably No 1. but they all seem to be lacking something. Dull colours and a pretty mundane subject just aren't doing it for me.

mmmm i agree, there really semms to be a lack of color in these photo's, it was why i asked what sort of photoshop work was done to them.

I am not sure what everyones obsession is with desaturating images to go for the black and white look is. Its becoming a bit played out IMO

Fair comment.
They are all partially de-saturated but they all still have some color so that they dont look too 'flat'.
I'll show u what the originals look like. Tell me what u think.

1. 2. 3.
4.

The only one I think looks as good or better is number 2 (Number 1 in the first post) with the original saturation

Some more great shots Harry, love no.1 of the latest set, just needs to be a bit straighter, I like it better with the colour too...

wow such a difference. except for the bridge one, the other photo's are really quite average.

I can see why you'd rather shoot in digital

I'm really undecided with the bridge photo i really like the colourless look but also really like the colour one as well. Either way great shot.

Yeh. When I got back I was really pissed off cos they look pretty crap, so I spent about 20 mins fixing them all to bring them to an acceptable standard. Much better!

Good to see that new Tripod being put to sweet use. Not sure about the latest batch, #2 stands out, the rest don't really do much for me. Really sharp and contrasty but lacks a subject and the bride just runs straight through the centre of the frame.

Yeh i see what u mean. I need to go and find some properly good photos. I WILL get some. I just need to find a place that I havent been and find some sort of interesting shot.

Something a little bit better:

1. (5 min exposure) 2. - I know it looks crooked, cant help it. The building was on an angle away from me so i cant rotate it to make it better.

What do u think?

Ok I haven't been on here for a while, but in my opinion,
The desaturated versions: #2. The reflection on the water is great.
The Normal versions: The bridge is definatly better than the others. Nice contrast.
The New ones: I love the look of the city in the first shot. And the grass in the foreground is actually very nice. Despite being a rather generic foreground, because theres only enough to frame the shot a little and give it more depth it looks really effective.

Nice work Harold

Cheers Nickle,

That grass was a bitch to do, I used a torch for the whole exposure, exposing it from different angles so it didnt have shadows etc.
The second one was not my idea, I was trying to copy this pic (7th one down) that I found and really liked. I think I should have done it earlier in the day and used a smaller aperture though. Mine needed alot of sharpening because I used f.7.1, should have been f.30 or something, I was as 300mm.

What do u think?

I havent been getting any decent photos recently so i tried again tonight and this is what I came up with.

This was a very long exposure, those are stars that are streaking! 1.
2. 3. - An R35 i found 4.
5. I like this better than number 6. It is not a busy. I still kinda like 6 tho.
6. 7. 8. - they were painful for my eyes!

awesome photos again harry.

the de-sat ones i think are really effective, although there isnt a huge main focal point the desaturation and sharpness of the lines give off great emotion, very eeky looking.

i would chose number 5 over 6 to jus because its less busy, but the last 2 i like alot. always very tricky photos.

cheers tyler

I'm really liking number that's exactly what i wanted my highway shot to look like but there where trees in the middle that got in the way. I also like number 8 the aqua brightens up a bit more than the blue one that one seems a bit dark.

The rear shot of the Skyline also looks a bit dark as well.

vp_s_wagon
Post #296

Cheers Guys,

Ghetto,
I'm guessing u mean number 2. Cheers man.
I see whatu mean with number 8 so I brightened it up a bit:
The Skyline Pic is not very good, the lighting was really crap. I was in a big shadow sad.gif I'll try and fix it though.

Cheers Tyler,
It was a really weird night. Very eerie. It wasnt hard to get that effect.
I like those last two aswel, never tried them before but I'm happy with how they turned out.

Cheers

a bit late now, but i actually really like the black moody ones as they remind of noir type movie sets - similar to sin city.

Hey, you did an awesome job with the photoshopping! Those graffiti ones turned out surprisingly well, but I think the second one looks better. And you managed to make the shack blue.. But I'd have to say my fave is #5.
Twas fun Harold!

love the two scooters - they are straight out of the scooter brochure i'm sure of it.....

maybe the only thing i'd like to see, would be in 6, lots of traffic creating those night lines in the background. so like really calm at the scooter, really hectic behind it.... (obviously depends on your intersection though...)

vp_s_wagon
Post #302

Yeh, if u zoom in there are some car lines behind it but it was gridlock behind it so it wasnt moving enough to give any good lines.

vp_s_wagon
Post #303

And it is the same scooter. A 1970's Vespa I found and just wheeled around to take the shots.

Bored last night so i went and took some shots.
What do u think??

1. - v.long exposure (note the star streaks)
Can't decide between these two- 2. 3. - Which do u think?
4.
C&C welcome.

You do some weird stuff Harry

Moment
Post #306

not sure about number 1 mate. IMO night shots should have a black sky (or at least a dark sky). But its cool how you can make everything that bright with no light and just a massive long exposure. Although you could have almost got teh same effect going there in teh day. Probably save you a heap of time in the process tongue.gif

awesome shots harry. number 3 is way better then 2, in 2 the person is blurry and where is light is way to bright.
number 4 is great, was u just shinning a torch on the person?

DR1F7
Post #308

How long is the exposure, and what apperture you using?

dj_brad_k
Post #309

i would assume for it to be that light it he would have had it set on bulb, im curious to how long the exposure was in the end.

nice looking shots again harry, number 3 over 2 just because of the person is very sharp

Twist,
Im a wierd person,

Moment,
Yeh but during the day u dont get starts wink.gif Just did it for fun smile.gif

PSI,
I am the person! I set off my flash in front of me. The diff is that in the second one i faced the flash at me not the fence.

Lance,
It was a 3min exposure @ f.7.1 ISO 200

Tyler,
It was a 3min in the end. Not that long. Full moon meant it was quite bright.
Yeh I like 3, but 2 has a bit of movement with the double exposure of the hood. I agree though, sharpness is always better.

Cheers for all the feedback guys,
Harry

Twist,
This one is Just for you. Some conventional Macro photography.
I found my dads old 50mm f.2 in the shed so i thought i'd give it a go. The only photoshopping was a DECREASE in saturation. No contrast, sharpening, nothing. Not bad for a lens made in 1977! No Auto Focus sucks though.

What do u think?

I still dont understand what u mean.
Do u mean that u r "moving on" to bigger and better things in your photography, like entering competitions and getting certificates?

If that is what u mean then i'm not sure how that is so much bigger and better. Didn't you ever go to comps or enter any of ur shots into them? I have entered (and won) a fair few. The only thing that sucks is that i have to enter in the adult division now coz im 18 sad.gif
If u wanna be more exposed to the pro side of things then the net is a pretty good source of top quality photographers.
Good sites to check out are: flikr.com or passionforpixels.com

Is that what u meant?
