QUOTE(vp_s_wagon @ May 31 2006, 12:06 PM) I'm Still not that good at using my camera to it's full potential so if anyone could tell me what settings I may need to change in order for my my pics to be better quality that would be great. The biggest problem I have been having is that the night skys and dark water turn out a bit grainy in some shots. Can anyone tell me why and how to fix it? Cheers Harry Your grain problem is caused by the long exposures on your digital camera. It seems that the longer you leave the shutter open, the more likely it is for your digital information to become a but scrambled and confused. Unfortunately the only way to fix this is to widen your apperture to allow for a faster shutter speed, or you could shoot in film which can handle long exposures better. The better the camera, the more easily it handles grain, but it is a common problem which has not yet got a solution. |

Cheers Carly, The way I have found to get around it is to shoot in RAW so I can adjust the shadow amounts and eliminate noise. I have the same sensor as ur D70 in my camera, although for some reason the D50's are slightly less prone to noise at higher ISO's. The only times I get it are, as u said, when I need a high f.number for city shots etc. I have found that it is not too bad anymore. And about the film, I would prefer to live with a bit of noise which I can remove in photoshop than go back to film! It is so annoying and I know nothing about it! Do u shoot in RAW? |

I shoot in raw when i have room on my card for the file size, and also when i have access to a good computer for converting. With most of my work i have to fit like 500 shots on my card so yeah. Film is great, but it takes a bit to learn. It is definately an art in itself:) |

I use a 512mb high speed card. I would get a 2gig, but im paranoid about shooting everything on one card, then losing it and everything with it. At least if i have multiple smaller cards i can never lose an entire job, i will always have something left. |

You just keep getting better dont u Harry. I love the jetty shots. The strong line and the red jumper your mum is wearing really draws your eye to her. Strange how you can do that with such a small subject in the distance. |

Btw have you considered doing some model shots? Just something a little different.. Lance, No thats how it was, there is only a slight increase in the shadow darkness in this one. Nickle, lol, cheers, I have considered it but I have no models. I wanna come down to the shoot with Amy, would u mind? |

What you should try is being in a pitch black room and using your flash (you know the one you nearly blinded me and Ange with by flashing it in our eyes!!) and get someone to flash you with that in random parts of the room. Because the flash is faster and brighter you wont be blurred in the shots. Good Idea, i'll try that 2nite, thanks! |
