Last night on a blast up and down mount Baw Baw, I toasted the brakes to the point of glowing. The way up the mountain i noticed sparks being thrown off the front brakes, also on the way down. 1/4 the way down i stopped to have a look at the condition of my brakes, which where glowing. Well one of them was anyway. The other was glowing, but realy dull. By the time i was 2/3 down the hill, i was suffering some serious shudder, and the pedal was super long. When i get to noojee, I stopped at the pub, and discovered that i had no pads left on the right hand side, but a full pad on the left. The right side was also the one that glowed the hardest. I have pics of both on my phone. The pads are only 6 months old, and i'm using Motul dot5.1 fluid, which was done a month ago. Any help would be appreciated, as i don't want to have it do this again, rotors are $278 each with trade prices. And pads are hard to find. Also, on a seperate but possibuly related topic, last week my ABS failed to unlock the front right wheel on the freeway after i was cut off, flat spotting the tire. Every test i have done subsequent, the ABS has worked perfectly, even on Baw Baw. -------------------- |

Sounds like the caliper is sticking and might need a rebuild. Amount of dirt your car sees might have something to do with it |

Monday i'll have the calipers overhauled, and the pads replaced. I'll have to see if i can save the rotors with a quick machining, but if not, i'll just have to replace them. Ergh. I'll pull out the sensors and give them a check over. |

I know it happens a lot on vt-vz commodores, see a lot of warped rotors. Make sure you a running a pad that can cope with the heat and still grip, otherwise you have to put a massive amount of brake pressure down to get them to grip, which equals even more heat. |
