This Telstra phishing scam is tricking lots of people

More than 22,000 people have received fake Telstra bills via email offering a refund as part of a phishing scam.

As companies moved customers to email billing, charging them extra to receive a paper bill via mail, scammers have moved in to take advantage, hoping to trick people into clicking on links that install malware or handing over passwords.

Telstra's chief information security officer Mike Burgess said the emails "look very authentic".

"One version of the fake email advises customers an account has been paid twice and customers can claim a ‘refund’ if they log into My Account via a link in the email," the telco said in a blog post today.

Here's how you can identify the fake versions, according to Telstra: "This fake email is identifiable by the absence of a ‘$’ sign to describe the amount of money that has allegedly been paid twice and is available for ‘refund’. Also, the amount supposedly available for refund is shown in a bracket. For example, (202.42*2).

"The other fake email advises customers their bill is attached. It is identifiable by a grammatical error in the salutation which is incorrectly addressed, ‘Hi, dear customer’."

Telstra says anyone who receives the emails should not to click on the links or attachments, and immediately delete them from their account.

The emails can be reported to Telstra via its Misuse of Service form or to Scamwatch or by calling 1300 795 995.

The Love Story continues! Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston look in bliss as they jet out from LA to Australia following July 4 bash

Just days ago they were flaunting their affair as they indulged in an epic July 4th celebratory weekend.

And the Love Story continued for Taylor Swift and new boyfriend Tom Hiddleston as they jetted out from Los Angeles to Australia on Wednesday.

The dynamic duo looked in bliss as they got ready to board their flight at the bustling LAX Airport.

Taylor, 26, was looking her usual ebullient self in a woollen top, short skirt and preppy flat shoes.

Her 35-year-old other half meanwhile opted for a laidback travelling outfit of denim jacket, T-shirt, jeans and grey suede shoes.

Tom is said to be heading for the Gold Coast, so he can get to work on his latest Marvel superhero movie, Thor: Ragnarok.

Their appearance at LAX came after they were spotted leaving New York following their momentous Fourth of July spent at her mansion in Rhode Island.

Just ordered a new clutch slave cylinder for the rx7, since it's off the road atm.

I had the existing one repaired / re-sleeved a few years ago and it's still an ongoing problem, loosing fluid every now and then when the car sits, and i find that it's 'down' on fluid when i check everything ahead of going on club events. so i've bitten the bullet, pulled the finger out, and ordered a new one via ebay.

The Brake Master Cylinder is currently being re-sleeved, and should be ready tomorrow. And i'm in the process of changing out the Magnafuel pump for dual 044's to solve the fuel heat issue / cavitation / boiling in the surge tank. The surge tanks out too, getting an extra outlet put in.

I've needed to do something about the fuel system for a long time. There was a plan many moons ago to install a drop tank, this work will alleviate that from needing to occur - or if i did do it at some future time then it'd be entirely for styling and not legitimate mechanical need / to mount a fuel cooling system etc..

it may need a recharge ahead of it's next use, but it should survive. My rx7 sits around all the time with the battery disconnected - it was too flat to start the car on this last occasion, but had been sitting since November last year.

jelly and yup tongue.gif

i picked up the brake master cylinder today, but am going to wait and do the clutch first - it'll be easier since there's more room with the brake unit out and the heat shielding pulled apart. Probably still going to have to remove the egr body off the side of the motor, but fortunately i don't have to worry about that 'til the clutch master cylinder turns up at the end of next week.

and am waiting for some fuel fittings to turn up early next week before i can get back to that.

i need to pull the drivers seat out so i can get up under the dash to undo the nuts holding the clutch unit it. joy joy.

no rush, i've got 7 weeks to get it done. stupid cars. tongue.gif

i won't pay people to do work that i can do myself.

also, if i had to try to get the car into Ben @ rotarymotorsport i'd be waiting 'til next year. As it is all he's had to do is get on the dog and bone and order a few parts, and one small welding job / clean out the catch can of metal shavings etc when he attaches the new outlet.

as far as patience........i generally don't let inanimate objects phase me, it can happen, but then i just walk away for a while and take a break.

Alph, it's media sensationalism. America has never been safer, but almost know one would know it if all they do is watch/read the news. You'd think the place is descending into a sea of chaos, rather than the safest it's been in 30 years. Pisses me right off.

'Aysha has NOT taken out an AVO on me - the police are pursuing it': Salim Mehajer declares 'only death do us apart' as he denies his wife is seeking an Apprehended Violence Order against him a year after their lavish wedding

Controversial suspended deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has denied his wife is seeking an apprehended violence order against him, claiming police are behind the application and they are trying to ‘pursue him’.

NSW Police, acting on behalf of Aysha Mehajer, made an application for an AVO against her husband on Monday - almost 12 months after the couple's lavish wedding shut down streets in western Sydney.

Mrs Mehajer’s maiden name Learmonth was used to apply for the AVO.

Controversial former deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has denied his wife Aysha is seeking an apprehended violence order against him after NSW Police lodged an application on Monday

Police will front Sydney's Downing Centre court on Wednesday to lodge the application against the suspended Auburn councillor.

But Mr Mehajer has denied his wife made the application and hit out at police accusing them of having a vendetta against him.

'Aysha has NOT taken out an AVO against me. The police are pursuing for an AVO,' he told news.com.au.
'As mentioned before, only death will do us apart (sic).'

The AVO application comes just days after Mr Mehajer posted a photo of him and his wife Aysha on Facebook gushing about their relationship.
His photo, which was posted on Friday, had the caption: 'You put the smile on my face, the sparky in my eyes and the love in my heart'.

It comes after months of speculation about their relationship after reports emerged in May that Aysha had moved out of the couple's mansion to stay with family in the NSW Illawarra region.

Friends claimed at the time that the controversial property developer was constantly phoning and texting his wife in an attempt to get her back.

Mr Mehajer repeatedly denied the couple were estranged after police were reportedly called to a 'domestic violence' incident at his sister-in-law's house in April after he was heard 'screaming and knocking at the door'.

Aysha was staying at the home near Wollongong with her sister when Mr Mehajer turned up to demand the keys to the Mercedes that she had been using.

Aysha Mehajer changed her name from April Learmonth when she married her husband in August 2015.

She had previously been a fair-skinned schoolgirl with strawberry-blonde hair and was a beautician before she converted to Islam.

Initial reports when the couple made headlines suggested she had made her transformation for her husband, but Mrs Mehajer told New Idea in October it was a 'personal preference'.

Despite Federal Court justice Debra Mortimer's deadline, Ms Gibson has not filed a defence, a Federal Court spokesman said on Tuesday.

Queensland restaurant refuses to reimburse underpaid worker who 'ate too much'

A Queensland restaurant operator who claimed a worker ate too much food and used too much air conditioning has been fined $21,000 after refusing to reimburse the underpaid staffer.

The owners of Fire and Stone restaurant at Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island illegally paid a Chinese backpacker $10 an hour in 2014.

At the time the worker was aged in her 20s, spoke limited English and was in Australia on a working holiday visa.

She contacted the Fair Work Ombudsman which found she was underpaid $1,577 in just 19 days, having received less than half the legal rate of pay for a casual hospitality worker.

The ombudsman took the business to court after it refused to reimburse the backpacker on the grounds she "ate too much food and used too much air-conditioning".

Penalty to serve as a warning, judge says

The Federal Circuit Court found the restaurant misclassified the worker as an independent contractor and breached sham contracting laws.

It penalised owner/operator Jia Ning Wang $3,500.

Wang's company - Golden Vision Food and Beverage Services Pty Ltd – was penalised a further $17,500.

Judge Michael Jarrett found Wang had not displayed any genuine contrition or remorse, and said the penalties should send a message to the hospitality industry and employers of visa holders.

The penalties should "serve as a warning to others that similar conduct can have serious consequences and ought not be repeated," Judge Jarrett said.

Fair Work Ombudsman Natalie James said that deliberate exploitation of vulnerable workers would not be tolerated.

"We treat alleged underpayment of visa-holders particularly seriously," Ms James said.

Twenty killed, dozens injured as trains collide in Italy

Twenty people died and dozens were injured when two passenger trains collided head-on in southern Italy on Tuesday, a regional official told reporters.

The force of the impact crumpled carriages and sent debris flying into an olive grove that flanked the single stretch of track in countryside between the towns of Corato and Andria.

"Unfortunately the death toll has risen to 20," said Giuseppe Corrado, the deputy head of the local province. He appealed for blood donors to go to local hospitals.

Firemen worked in fierce summer heat after the crash, which happened at around 11.30 a.m. (0930 GMT), picking through the wreckage and shattered carriages in search of other victims.

"The rescue is complicated because this happened in the middle of the countryside," said Luca Cari, a fire service spokesman, the sound of crickets ringing out as rescue teams started to extract bodies from the site.

There was no immediate indication of what had caused the two trains to be travelling towards each other on the same line and the Transport Ministry said it was dispatching two investigators to the region of Puglia to look into the disaster.
