Pair believed shot dead outside police headquarters in Parramatta

wo people are believed to have been shot dead outside police headquarters in Parramatta, in Sydney's west.

A NSW Police Force spokeswoman said a "police operation is now underway" but could not confirm anything further.

She said Charles Street and Hassall Street were closed as a result.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of the two streets about 4.30pm.

One Facebook user, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, said a man opened fire at least five times outside the NSW Police Force headquarters building, before being shot by police and a security guard, who returned fire.

"There was blood everywhere," she posted.

A caller to the Ben Fordham program on 2GB said they could see two bodies, covered with sheets.

“There are two bodies on the ground and we are just being told to move away to give police room,” the caller said.

The NSW Police Force maintains an administrative building on Marsden Street in Parramatta's CBD.

Photos from the scene show a large amount of police vehicles in the area.

Helicopters are also hovering over the area.

American deaths in terrorism vs. gun violence in one graph

How Obama responds to shooting attacks
(CNN)During his presidency, President Barack Obama has had to deliver statements on gun violence 15 times.

After a gunman opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College, killing nine people and injuring seven, a visibly upset Obama said the shootings were becoming all too routine.

The gunman also died, although it's unclear whether he was shot by police or committed suicide.

"The reporting is routine," he said. "My response here at this podium ends up being routine, the conversation in the aftermath of it. We've become numb to this."

He then asked news organizations to tally up the number of Americans killed through terrorist attacks in the last decade and compare it with the number of Americans who have died in gun violence.

Oregon governor: Now is not the time to talk about gun control

Using numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we found that from 2004 and 2013, 316,545 people died by firearms on U.S. soil. (2013 is the most recent year CDC data for deaths by firearms is available.) This data covered all manners of death, including homicide, accident and suicide.

According to the U.S. State Department, the number of U.S. citizens killed overseas as a result of incidents of terrorism from 2004 to 2013 was 277.

In addition, we compiled all terrorism incidents inside the U.S.* and found that between 2004 and 2013, there were 36 people killed in domestic acts of terrorism. This brings the total to 313.

*Includes the following incidents for domestic terrorism incidents:

Knoxville church shooting (Tennessee) 7/27/08

Pittsburgh police officers killed (Pennsylvania) 4/4/09

Tiller abortion clinic (Kansas) 5/31/09

Holocaust Museum shooting (DC) 6/10/09

Fort Hood shooting (Texas) 11/5/09

Plane crash into Austin IRS building (Texas) 2/18/10

Fort Stewart Army base killing (Georgia) 12/10/11

Sikh Temple Shooting (Wisconsin) 8/7/12

St. John's Parish police ambush (Louisiana) 8/16/12

Boston Marathon Bombing (Massachusetts) 4/15/13

LAX Shooting (California) 11/05/13

Opinion: Why we're still debating guns in 2015

Let's see a breakdown that removes:

Criminals shot by criminals
Criminals shot by police

That would almost certainly be the bulk of them.

The number that remains would in my opinion be a more relevant comparison. I couldn't care less about those people in the above categories.

Yes, and thanks for stalking. Japan has a very sensible 8 hour quarantine period for pets. Unlike Australia, which puts them in a box for a month (recently improved from 3 months)...effectively preventing anyone from bringing pets with them.

You have taken the odd photo down there, and the background seemed familiar. It was just that you said your unit had sold a couple of months ago,and that normally involves vacating the place twenty eight days after settlement, because the purchaser wants to move in.Obviously the person who bought it,must have done so,for an investment,if you're still there, which must be very convenient for you,in not having to relocate, for a short time, before the big move.

Did you find the Lismore,Casino Kyogle part a bit bland,as far as staying awake goes? You can do pretty much the same inverted triangle trip, hitting the same places,if you turn right off the Highway, just after the Lismore Airport but it does keep you on your toes, just depends on your mood at the time

I call it my 'Pink Girly Bike',you could only get it in set colours (and this was one of the best),when I bought it in '97,but it would appear it has become a popular vehicle colour in the last couple of years.Suzuki springs to mind immediately,so maybe Dai's next 'busa might be the same colour!

On October 1st, Wargaming invited the Press to Chatham Historic Dockyard in Kent to unveil World of Warships and announce the new German Cruisers and Soviet Destroyers. Since we were there anyway, I took the opportunity to get a look at the Oberon class Attack Submarine "HMS Ocelot", the Victorian sloop "HMS Gannet" and the worlds' only surviving British World War II Destroyer, "HMS Cavalier". Oh, and I looked at some PC game about ships too.

but it's been replaced by this one (a year younger) for a couple of days,so my young bloke can give some TLC,that it badly needs. It still has its last rego sticker on it,and I thought it was clever for a standard QLD plate number....NOH200,which to me equates to 'No H2O'.Last night, the bloke that owns it called in,and I pointed it out to him, saying "No Water, not bad plates for an air cooled motor"and I nearly fell over when he said,"speaking of water,Ive been meaning to ask ask you where the radiator is located".....and he was deadly serious,he honestly had no idea what an air cooled motor was,it's lucky I've got a couple of lawn mowers down there as well unsure.gif head_wall.gif
