U.S. Prepared to Intercept Iranian Convoy Suspected of Carrying Weapons to Yemen

American warships are prepared to intercept a convoy of Iranian ships suspected of carrying weapons to Houthi rebel forces in Yemen, senior defense and military officials told NBC News on Monday.

An Iranian convoy of freighters, escorted by warships from the Iranian military and Revolutionary Guard forces, appears headed for Yemen, the officials said.

They emphasized that while the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier group would be in position to intercept the convoy, an intercept could also be carried out by Saudi Arabia, Egypt or the United Arab Emirates, which are patrolling the waters off Yemen.

Supported by the United States, Saudi Arabia has led Sunni Arab countries in carrying out more than three weeks of airstrikes targeting the rebels, who are backed by Iran and have seized parts of Yemen.

There is no indication that U.S. or other coalition warships have been in contact with the Iranians, but one official told NBC News, "They know we're there."

Some U.S. officials are concerned that the leak of the information is not good, coming at the same time as the United States and other countries try to reach a final agreement on Iran's nuclear program.

"Since this is now public, the Iranians may feel they've been backed into a corner" and attempt to run through any blockade set up by the coalition warships, one official said.

The deployment comes after a U.N. Security Council resolution approved last week imposed an arms embargo on leaders of the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels, who have taken over much of Yemen.

The resolution passed in a 14-0 vote with Russia abstaining. Navy officials said Monday that the Roosevelt was moving through the Arabian Sea. A massive ship that carries F/A-18 fighter jets, the "TR" is seen more of a deterrent and show of force in the region.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest would not comment specifically on any Navy movements in Yemeni waters, but said the U.S. has concerns about Iran's "continued support for the Houthis.

"We have seen evidence that the Iranians are supplying weapons and other armed support to the Houthis in Yemen," Earnest said Monday. "That support will only contribute to greater violence in that country. These are exactly the kind of destabilizing activities that we have in mind when we raise concerns about Iran's destabilizing activities in the Middle East."

He added, "Iranians are acutely aware of our concerns for their continued support of the Houthis by sending them large shipments of weapons."

SciFi Cult classis Galaxy Quest getting tv adaption.

When Galaxy Quest was released in 1999, the movie didn't do very well at the box office. Audiences hadn't yet embraced the "meta" style of humor that we're familiar with now, and though the film was smart, funny, and very well acted, it just didn't find an audience theatrically. That changed when it made its way to DVD, and the movie has since gained cult classic status, going as far as to be ranked one of the best Star Trek films of all time at last year's Star Trek convention even though it isn't actually a real Trek movie.

But I suppose the people at Paramount have seen the movie gain favor with fans over the years, because now Deadline is reporting that the studio is putting a Galaxy Quest TV series into development. If you haven't seen the movie, do yourself a favor and go watch it immediately. It's great, and the cast — including Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell, Alan Rickman, Justin Long, and Tony Shaloub — is truly fantastic. The story follows a group of washed-up TV actors who starred in a sci-fi show who actually get caught up in an intergalactic adventure, meaning they have to step up and actually become heroes to save the world.

Robert Gordon, who wrote the film's script, is expected to write the TV series, while director Dean Parisot and producer Mark Johnson are in talks to executive produce. This is the latest in Paramount's long line of proposed TV adaptations, but this is one of the more exciting attempts to mine their back catalog for worthwhile material. Olivia Wilde discusses Tron 3 and Quorra in the real world

I couldn’t be more excited that Disney is moving forward with their Tron 3 plans! I’ve been waiting for this to happen since Tron: Legacy, I just didn’t think fans would have to wait this long. Better late than never though!

Garett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde are set to reprise their roles in the film, and in a recent interview with Collider, Wilde talked a little bit about the production, confirming that the movie will indeed begin shooting in October as previously rumored.

Talking about why the movie took so long to happen, she explained that they were just trying to find the right story:

“The delay has only ever been story, finding the right story. It hasn’t been anything else. There’s never been a time where we wanted to go and then schedules got in the way. It’s only been like, ‘That’s not the right story.’ So, in the past year, the right story kind of came together and we felt, ‘Oh, this actually – this might be the right one to tell.’ And, you know, there’s still a lot to be done before it could actually happen, but the fact that there’s a goal of this year to start is really exciting.”
She goes on to talk about her character and how we will follow the character in the real world, which is what we expected would be a major plot point.

“I love this character of Quorra so much, and I’ve built her with Joe Kosinski, and we took her such a long way from what was written to what we made. I mean, I fought for her to be this kind of androgynous child and that’s so not what you typically see in these movies, so I’m so grateful that the producers let me play with her and make her this strange little being. And I’m really excited to see what happens to that character when put into the real world. I think it’s an interesting concept. I’m fascinated by all discussions of AI, and especially now today and now with virtual reality becoming something that’s like a personal device, I think it’s the time to tell this story.”
Disney has yet to confirm anything official, but I do know for a fact that it’s in development and that everyone is just anxiously waiting for the official greenlight.

Thats a shame. I left pretty much as soon as the off topic forum became unregulated, and from what I remember a fair few of the other senior contributers did too as it just turned to a shitfest of topics that were either just a youtube link with nothing else, or just random pointless threads by attention seekers.

Back then the change was justified as "it'll bring more people in because that's what people want", despite protests from most who had been there over 12 months. Guess it didn't work out as expected.
