looks like a W58 series box with a castlemaine rod shop bellhousing, would take a stab at holden v8 by length and pattern. mostly known as the alloy oval supra box, not the r154 that is much bigger |

Most gearboxes are strong, a LOT comes down to the driver. The W58's are a reasonably strong box, but it depends what ratio it is. The higher ratio the first gear is the stronger it is as a rule in most gearboxes, it just comes down to gear tooth contact area. The main thing that saves must 5 speeds is the fact you can run a lower ratio diff so easier on the gearbox and clutch, the 3.45 borgwarner is great for this. |

That gearbox is getting pretty old by now so you would do well to run a kit through it, use the higher spec bearings and set the preloads exactly at the upper end of the scale, this helps at lot with durability. As much as people bag them, I used to run a rebuilt M21 behind a L34 308 and never had any issues, most of the stories were from battlers who buy a worn box then go out doing rollback burnouts and wonder why it breaks. I am looking at using the T5, they are a very underrated box, the early ones were weak, but the 94 onwards are great, there are many mods you can do and great gear choices, once built properly, the shift so slick and can take some punishment, the Astro A5 gearset is the ultimate, but almost up there with getting a TKO. Check the vids on a very hard punished t5 , youtube grey mare mustang Cool, it has t5 or ts stamped on top of the box and 204674 on the bottom if that means anything and also running a 10 bolt with 4.44 gears just really wanted to know if it gonna hold up as I have no money left after just rebuilding the engine cheers !! |

Your is the Toyota box, celics/supra box, by T5 I meant Tremec or borgwarner T5. 10 bolt with the one tonner 4.44 gears, holy fk, that will launch if you can get it to hook up, but will be doing about 3000 rpm on the highway. |
