If you do not intend to renew your registration by the due date, you are required by law to remove the registration numbers and apply for cancellation of the registration immediately. Fines apply for driving an unregistered ship.

thats all it says, doesnt say how much moola.

Taking an 11 foot punt to Moreton island??? I think the fine is the least of your worries... Better hope its a good day on the bay...

have the laws changed?

it used to be anything at or over 6hp needed to be registered all others didn't. thus making both the 3hp and 5hp motors legal without rego.

I am sorry but you are an idiot for even thinking about it.

I would consider it in my 12ft with 15hp on the back leaving from Amity on a perfect day but ffs a punt and i take it you leaving from manly????

Are you aware of the go slow zones out there? $400 on the spot fine and they pick you up on radar before you even see the mother ship.

Please do not do it, dont need to see another tool on the news getting saved or possibly worse, pulling your bodies out of moreton bay - cold.

fuck there are some morons here, I don't think even the most stupidest person in Brisbane would take there 5hp tinnie to moreton. You can have a 6hp engine unregistered. There is next to no one policing it over there anyway. Maybe the odd occasion but just don't get on the piss as you can still get done for DD on it. Happy camping !

pretty sure old mate is taking the boat over on the barge....

5hp would be fine along the western coast, so long as you dont go TOO far out. have fun at moreton, so keen to go back again!

Also something else to consider you need a V sheet and flares as its classed as partially smooth waters to get to moreton another ~$200 fine without them

he is not going across the bay, if he stays 1nm off moreton he does not need them, but every boat SHOULD be required to have them as if your engine kicks it and the current floats you out your screwed

nah bud, the kid across the road got a little 12ft quintrex bought for him with a 6hp merc cos he was too young for a licence. most the hire boats you get are 6hp also, get a 15hp and put a 6hp sticker on it ;)

he is right, anything over 4hp you need registered, everything over 6 you need a licence.

Did the laws change?? It used to be anything with an engine over 6hp (or the equivalent in kw's) our if the boat was capable of doing 10 knots or faster. Has the 10 knots rule gone?

Your post does not raise a valid point.

Hire boats at 6hp because thats the max you can use without a licence.

They are registered...

Pretty much this.

The power restrictions in regards to licensing and registration are actually measured in kilowatts as opposed to horsepower, the exact figures (to 2 decimal places) are 4.08hp (3kw) for registration purposes and 6.12hp (4.5kw) for licensing purposes (recreational vessels only).
