near Strathpine mate.

is a complete motor apart from bolt-ons... so has injection system etc... I had a fixerupper in the yard, bought a lower kay engine for it, so now it sits... had a couple of people offer me $200 for it, but they never fronted. $150 firm should do me I think. that is cheap for the injection system alone!!

Hmm i have air con, pwr steer, alt etc still on mine i think... well i live in cabo and my folks live at cashmere, so might be an excuse to go visit! How about i come around tomorrow after i get back from greazefest, and check it out? I'll bring cash and a trailer. And we'll er... somehow get the bastard on there.

He has already started that caper. Was out in the shed putting the fishing rod holders back on the bullbar of my 4WD after pulling them off for rego. I turned around for a minute and here was the young bloke with a 17mm ring spanner bashing the front wheel going "fix, fix, fix, fix!"

Not back yet champ, told him no rush, whenever he gets around to it.

I'm running the car to our clubs yearly fundraiser @ Caboolture this saturday though, and prolly through it in the Coomera Car & Bike show this coming Sunday as well.

Good thing is you can pick them up really cheap and parts are fairly easy to find.
I almost bought a VJ valiant with a 265.. but got the XC insted.. simply because it was local while the val was 9 hours away..

On a side note.. anyone know of any nanna spec Ke70's? Want a new daily, something smaller, 4cyl so less petrol and rego etc. plus parts for them cost shit all.. hell a parts car would cost less then a single panel for most other cars ahha and well they can look pretty good... Finding it hard to find one that hasn't been molested / been half made into a track car..
If anyone knows of one Pm me :P

Mate if your having trouble finding a decent car, expect trouble finding parts when you need them too.
If you really are after a car purely for daily driving reliability and fuel economy and inexpensve parts, i would actually go a hyundai excel. Actually, i DID go a hyundai excel. Sitting in my back yard waiting for rego :-) and will double as my Excel series car.

So this morning i pulled the rooted V6 out of my VT, not sure what was wrong with it as i bought id with no inlet mani and with a head off and NO parts to put it back together, so im putting in an engine i picked up from Ash this afternoon.
Realised i have no radiator :headwall: or thermo fans :headwall: :headwall: so the hunt is on for a cheap set of those bad boys.
Im quite impressed with myself haha never pulled a motor out by myself before - this bastard has wiring and sensors bloody everywhere. Hopefully i can get this one in before dark, and maybe even have a radiator by then so i can try and start it.
EDIT - no alternater either! :headwall: :headwall: :headwall:

Yo ash - dont suppose youve got an alternator....? and mebbe the tensioner pulley from next to the alternator...?

No of offense but i still want something with character.
I mean keto's can look really good with little effort-
Spray it, lower it and some nice rims with good offset, quad lights and it'll look mint, wont be fast by any means but will look the part.
Plus im sure going from a 4L 6cly to a 1.3L 4cyl ill still be laughing when it come to filling it up.

Parts arnt hard to find, nor are parts cars or cars that have been preped for the track, even half decent ones pop up a lot, im just having trouble finding a nanna spec one. I mean you can pick them up for 500-1000$ some with RCW and rego, but id rather pay a but more and get one with low km, less rust and one thats been looked after. Not in a hurry to find one, just gunna wait til a good one pops up, just figured it wouldn't hurt to ask in here.

As for getting an excel, i dunno id rather a keto ahha just something about them that makes them soo much more appealing..
I did read your thread for the excel a while back, looks like alot of fun, a good cheap alternative to standard track racing, and also the rules make it fair, so the person with the deepest pockets don't always win.

No offence mate, but it will only be a daily driver. Reason why I got a laser is because I knew I wouldn't want to spend ANY money AT ALL on it. I take it anywhere and don't worry about anything that happens to it. I got a door dint the other day and just shrugged my shoulders, it didn't bother me, yet I had a lady in a Falcon door my tray in the ute, and even though it didn't damage my tray and chipped her door, I still got shitty at her.
Do you see where i'm coming from? Even though you say spray it, lower it, rims, etc, this is all money which you could be spending wisely on a 351 etc for your opens or on anything.
I was in the same situation end of last year and I am actually glad that I have the laser, as embarrassing as it is to drive, EVERYTHING works and is a dream to drive, no matter how much i hate it.
If you ever want to get that Falcon on the road, buy something that needs no/ you won't want to, spend any money on it.

If you want something REALLY cheap to run, I'll be selling a '95 Diahatsu Charade sometime in the next few weeks...as soon as I get my HJ on the road.
Not fast by any stretch of the imagination (3 cylinder!!), but a $40 tank of fuel goes a minimum 550Ks - more if you drive it like a grandma.
Also, I just had a brand new clutch and pressure plate put in it on Friday.

yeah i can totally see where you are coming from, having something that can be done up will make me wanna spend $$ on it.
but i still want something "cool" to use as my daily, i don't think ill V8 the xc, would rather wait and get a new project and v8 that down the line.
I have pretty much everything i really need to finish the XC and just have the body work left to do, and but the intake back on not that i found an adapter for the carby. So don't have much more to spend on her, so figured id do a nice little daily.
But as i said b4 i'm not in a hurry to find one, there nothing wrong with the Au except the amount of petrol it uses and its ugly as fuck, but if a nice keto pops up ill considering getting it. we'll see what happens ;)

Got the Monaro back.

Much excitement.

Totally different car now, no more flat spot, heaps more power/torque down low, real happy.

Old mate rebuilt the carby top to bottom, new slightly oversized jets, replaced metering blocks, removed the main wall in the bowl area, replaced the phenolic spacer I had with a ported 4 port setup instead which gained some decent power, set timing, played with dizzy to get just right and installed the throttle cable setup for nothing as well.

For a tad over $500 I'm more than happy with the results, and, not that I really am worried, but it shouldn't chew as much fuel lol.

Going to install the fuel log rail, move the carter pump to the rear of the car, remove the entire surge setup on Thurs night, I can use the current line in there, will just remove the EFI pump, all line is 1" so no drama, will clean the engine bay up heaps.

Will also install the fabbed covers this week, all in time for the Coomera show on Sun. ;)

hope you find those bits and pieces real soon though... was thinking about it. who on earth sells or buys a car that only has one cylinder head on a V6? I lolled a bit at that one ;)

Just sold my AE92 corolla for $460 lol it paid the rego on my Magna TE for 6 months lol

I wouldn't say no to a val, or a kingswood, however if i plan pour thousands of dollars on it, i want it to really be a dam good car that i'll appreciate (not saying kingswoods or vals don't cut it).

I've figured im not going to get something fast, just a slow steady cruiser.

I'm thinking of something along the lines of this..... MG roadster

b.t.h i actually like the MG's etc, especially the v8 versions but you'll spend thousands on a car that will break down constantly thanks to the Lucas electrical system they run and good luck finding one that doesn't leak in some shape or form. Keep it simple and get yourself a cruiser as you planned, although i had those plans for something reliable and slow, that all went out the window as soon as it went into the mechanic for the engine "freshen" up. $10 k later i had a new engine/gearbox/diff/induction/brakes/cooling system/suspension................the list goes on. Lol.

haha well im sure i'd spend 10k on it, it would be worth it. I don't think theres any better (or expensive) hobby then cars.

I watched an entire series of A car is reborn, and they restored an mg like the one in the top pic from top to bottom, complete overhaul, it was so awesome. And i wouldn't mind if it leaks, or has shotty electrical systems, as i guess thats just all part of owning an old british car. I'll be looking at spending 3g or so on a car, so im hoping to get something that i am able to restore for that.

Off to watch 5th gear now.

Not a big fan of MG's But that 2nd one looks pretty cool!
It all comes down to personal preference, i personally would rather a val or kingswood over a mg or smaller "roadster" type car, but its gunna be your car so ultimately get what ever you want. Oh god a magna.. how good are there turning circles!? :headwall: i will admit tho my one copped a thrashing and never died.

Haha, i thought it was just my car being a little shit. It's up on the members rides if you want to look - nothing fancy. Yeah, mines copped a bit of thrashing already, would explain the amount of fuel it's chewing threw. Nice and quiet inside though, no road noise.

And yeah i like the second one, but it would be very hard to find one for cheap.

I've got a few months of saving ahead of me so my mind will no doubt change.

That 2nd one looks like it'd take a couple years worth of saving to get one. Its ugly as fuck too imo.

You really need to find something that not only is cheapish to buy (i still think an early holden is the best bet, like an FE/FC or FB/EK) but parts easy to find as well. Early Holdens are so easy to get parts and panels for.

To me, MG's just scream "I'm a smug tosser". That's the difference between Aussie / Yank car owners and stuff like MG's.. They won't give you a thumbs up as they go past. Their too good for that :P

Yeah i knda agree with nick there too... but ben youve gotta get a car that YOU like, otherwise you will lose motivation to work on it quickly.
Thats why i have 3 cars on the go at the moment lol... i get bored quick and i like to bounce from one to the other etc.

Haha wb, yeah your wb probably would be alot worse, but for a newish car with power steering and such, it is a shitter of a thing in the car park.
