There was 2 briefings at least that explained all the above? One in particular for the excel drivers alone which outlined that bunching up to promote close "racing" was not on...

obviously some guys are retarted and dont get it,maybe they will when they make someone get hurt

I want this to be fun, inexpensive and SAFE.
So what's going to happen is that people who dont obey the rules for "Sprints"
Will be upgraded to circuit racing and wont be allowed back into the sprint events.

That doesn't mean that the circuit racing is like playing dodgem cars,
The Topgear Circuit Racing that we do is entry level racing and is designed as a fun way to go circuit racing.
Nobody wants to smash their cars, nobody wants to go home and have to replace panels and repaint cars.

Anybody who takes Topgear Circuit Racing too Seriously will be relegated to the QRDC series and they can play with the big boys.
There is no where to go after QRDC.

i certainly found yesterday much better than last time (march) for the sprints.

by grouping the excel's together we were able to get in a few good laps in without the hassle of being overtaken or overtaking. I only had 1 session out of 4 which i wasn't able to be at full pace.

i enjoy the sprints and will probably only do the sprints, because im not financially set up to enter the circuit racing. however even if i could, i certainly wouldn't be wanting my car all beat up during a race and possibly out after just 1 lap.

We might have a beginner to intermediate track training day coming up at Qld Raceway soon.
I dont have confirmed dates yet.

Cost will $200.00 for 4 hours
the group will be minimum 8 cars to maximum 16 cars.
Professional racing driver as the instructor.

Who would be interested in attending a day like that ?

On a happier note......

I am close to negotiating a Tyre deal on a Control Tyre for the Circuit Racing.
The tyre that we are looking at is a 240 treadwear tyre and will be similar to the tyres that a lot of you are running now.
The preferred tyre will be a 195 x 50 x 15 at about $90.00 each + fitting
We will also have a 205x50x15 and a 185x60x14 tyre available at similar prices.

We will be including delivery to either one of our nominated tyre fitting stores, or any Metro address where the purchaser can sign for the tyres when they are delivered. Metro delivery areas will Include Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Rocky.

The rules for the sprints will stay the same as they are now, 200 + treadwear, so there would be no changes required for vehicles currently competing at the sprint level.

Cars that upgrade to circuit racing will be allowed an amnesty period to wear out their current set of tyres before being required to upgrade to the Control tyre. You will be allowed to use the Circuit Racing tyre at the Sprints.

Some sponsor signage may be required on the cars.
Let me know what you guys think, can anybody see any problems ?

Cheers Jeff

I have been tied up all day processing video and talking to the potential tyre sponsor.
and a potential Race Series Sponsor !
So haven't have a chance to get the results up on Track Attack.

You can see where you came yesterday on Natsoft - http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....04/2010.LAKE.P1

as the old saying goes it is always more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow.

This to me sounds like good old fashioned cheap fun.

And young kids say there is nothing to do.

this sounds fantastic about a potential tyre sponsor!! though, hearing this is getting more serious, i'll wait until there is an annoucned control tyre/sponsor before purchasing anything else.
i'll stick with my road 14's

Hey guys,
somebody told me there might be a Stock EXcel Class car running a nice shiny new set of extractors
If this is the case that car wont comply with the class requirements.
The car can still come and run with the other excels, but it will be excluded from the points.

Cheers Jeff

Lots of them are single cams, there isnt much difference between the two, a few horsepower at the top of the rev range.
I have some dyno sheets somewhere if i can find some time I will scan them.

Yes the circuit racing control tyre will be allowed at the sprints, and it will comply with the current sprints rules, so nobody will lose out.
and the price is pretty hot and availability wont be a problem, plus they will be available all over the place.
I will have a list of fitters that you can use, or you will be able to use your local tyre fitters.

I want to allow a bit more freedom at the sprints so that people can use they tyres that they already have without feeling pressured to buy new tyres immediately. At the price of these tyres i think that most people will want to run them anyway.

One more thing that I should mention is that to be part of the series you need to sign up for the track days through the Track Attack website, otherwise we dont have your details and you wont get any points towards the series.

I think we had 22 Excels out there yesterday, and only 16 registered through Track Attack.
So the 6 people who signed up on the day at the control tower aren't series entered.

Also the maximum cars that can attend the sprints at Lakeside is 100, there were over 80 there on sunday,
so you risk missing out if you try to signup on the day at the track

Thanks Jeff

finally got my camber bolts from the states today. I installed 1 as a test, I started with 1 degree camber and after the first set I got 2.5. So if you install them top and bottom I cant see why you would not get 4 degrees plus.

PM if your keen on a set, bare in mind they take about 2 weeks to get here. ( I might see how much extra for express postage)

Hey Guys,

The following people ran Excels at Lakeside yesterday and because they entered at the control tower instead of through the Track Attack website they are not accumulating series points towards the championship.

Gino Goodall
Nathan Crosthwaite
Cameron Bankourski
Shaun Clark
Jeff Loh

If you dont enter every event through Track Attack then you are not part of the official Excel Series.

Cheers Jeff

jeff, is it possible to maybe have a mt cotton hillclimb day? on your site it mentions no upcoming events. i think this would be an awesome day for "sprints" as only 1 car at a time is on the track? eliminate any theory of 'sprint - races'

trackattack
Post #901

We did a hillclimb at Mt Cotton a few months ago and it was a great day.
At this stage the only thing stopping me organising another day there is the CAMS insurance.
If you guys are all willing to join car clubs, getting cams licenses and getting your cars cams compliant then its no problems for me to organise another Track Attack day there

how many are prepared to meet the cams requirements ?

If we can organise day licenses again it might not be too bad,
Probably $100 odd dollars plus the day license cost about $30
You would also need a fire extinguisher in the car

If we limit it to about 70 cars should get 6+ runs in the day.

To do circuit racing (over the sprints) you basically need to be cams compliant anyway, and its not a whole lot more to do really.

I'd be keen to run mt cotton again, and as you can double/tripe enter it easily all of us would get a fair few laps.
Jeff, you were talking about trying to run it under AASA? is that still a option? otherwise CAMS is fine, I've got my licence for it so may as well use it at least once....

The issue is for the guys with roll cages, the ones who ahev pulled dashes out and a few other issues.

Knowing MGCCQ I doubt they would run it under AASA but who knows. To do the circuit racing there is a difference between AASA and CAMS. Under CAMS if your car has a cage you then need to get that cage passed and you have to have the vehicle log booked so you are looking at a few hundred to do that assuming the car passes requirements.
