ok i have a 1970 v6 gt capri that gets a bit hot every once in a while especially in hot wether or in stop start traffic i frequently have to short shift / drive at under 110km/hr on the highway to keep temps down it only happens on 30degree or hotter days

it has a smallish factory radiator and factory water pump it had one thrmo fan on it when we got it, has 2 now but still gets hot

the motor is modifyed a fair bit i'm just wondering what i can do to keep temps down it doesn't have any blockages or anything just a shit 1970 cooling system

after putting another thermo fan on the problem isn't as bad but is still a pain in the ass i was thinking putting a bigger radiator possibly a xf falcon radiator in or possibly a better water pump

the problem i have is that a xf radiator is about twice as big as the factory one and i'm gunna have to cut metal out to fit it, in south africa the car came out factory with a v8 so a v8 radator will fit

i have an autometer temp gauge which is in degree's farinheight, what is a good temp for a car to run at???

i try to keep it between 180 and 200 degree's F

what is a better radiator that would be easier to fit

anyone got any idea's on what else i could do to keep temps down

You don't want it to go over 200'F too often, thats probobly a decent temperature for it to stay at, but it could go higher because you have cast heads. Try a lower thermostat and maybe get the radiator recored instead of a bigger one.

Piss off the factory item, Fit a big fuck off 3 core multipass, check the thermostat / remove the guts of it all together if you wana get serious.

Also an External Electric waterpump may be the go if the factory item wont have enough force to push the new setup, and they also have variable speed control.

so if my engine temp sits at 81deg Celcius.. is that good ?

yeah was thinking about an electric water pump there doesn't seem to be much pressure there with the stock unit

fuck running the car with no thermostat it takes a while to come up to normal temp as it is

i have been told its bad to run a car without a thermostat something to do with not being able regulating temp or something not 100% sure why

would love to put a 3 pass dessert cooler radiator into it

i just wanyt the thing to be able to do laps or the esplanade on a really hot day without coming up to 200 degree's and to be able to sit on 140km/hr for as long as i want on the freeway on a hot day without getting hot, i just want the cunt to be reliable

might look at getting the radiator re-cored might go see what a radiator place has to say about it as i didn't even no u could do that

i don't think there's anything wrong with the thermostat it i think it has a 170degree one in it now

do u no how hard it is to get parts for the car nowhere stocks parts apart from repco but most parts are now obsolete i want a lsd for it but have to import one from england it would cost the same to fit a cut down a 9" to it

Hey there sik

I was just having the same problem with my xb falcon

except mine was constantly hitting temps of 220-240F after 20 mins

Mine advice...piss of the thermo fans and get a mechanical fan

thermos restrict airflow... did this for mine and it went cooler...not much but better

next would be to prob get the radiator recored...what is it now twin core?

prob look at getting 3 core

my advice before all of this is check that ur thermostat and water pump are working properly before doing so

in my commodore i split 3 radiators before someone checked the thermostat and realised it wasnt working! biggrin.gif

Sooo.... is 81.C good or bad ??

That is fine

When it gets to 92-93 i would start to be concerned

then at 100 there could be something wrong

depending on how good ur coolant is!
