They are on a Buy It Now price on ebay for $1095, + $300 Transport from Auckland, NZ.

Here's the page - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/D2-Adjustable-Suspe...1QQcmdZViewItem

What would you say?

Cheers! thumbsup.gif

those spring rates dont make sense to me? why would you want softer springs in the rear of a fwd car?

be prepared to sacrifice ride comfort though. coilovers are good, but can be a little uncomfortable.

I have had both front shocks die on me after 2 months but were replaced by Just Jap under warranty. They have been going strong since then for close to 5 months. They told me there was a bad bunch of inserts that came out of the factory that have shown a 60% fail rate. I've been extremely impressed with Just Jap's after sales support, I've had to go back there 4 times (once for each front strut and a couple of times to replace the bolts on the camber tops as they have a tendency to snap, (I now keep several spares) they know me and my car fairly well now.

QUOTE
One problem I do have a lot of noise that comes from the front of the car that seems to come from the bearings and bushes in the pillow tops. I've rebuilt them several times and greased and oiled them even more and the noises keep coming back fairly quickly. This is common with most people I know with D2 or G4 coilovers.

QUOTE
They are advertised as 15way adjustable damper. But the damping adjustment does SFA to the damping....all it does is make nice clicking noises when you turn it and in no way changes the soft/hardness.

The spring rates are all wrong not only for the car but they dont match the valving used in the shock, they are always horribly stiff

I have read of one persons experience in a Silvia with D2 coilovers fitted where even at low speeds the car was skipping across the road and once speeds got higher it would follow any change in camber in the road and would buck and bounce all over the place if things got bumpy..

QUOTE
My S13 had a similar failure at Oran Park last year with G4 Coilovers. They were installed by a qualified mechanic and less than 500km's old. Was neogiating a corner at 80kmph when i heard a loud bang, stopping the car to find mad camber on one side, towed back to the pits to find that the strut had snapped. Was very lucky no other damage occured ie not lose control and put the car into the wall.

just a handful of posts from a thread on toymods....i would seriously rethink choise of coilover

lol so i was right about the springs! go buddy club or tein's. chekc out a honda club for better info, they would know more about it.

when it comes to suspension, dont skimp, especially on a honda. put in the extra couple of hundred and get a decent brand. you will regret it other wise.

If you are dead set on buying these, you can buy these just as cheap from many companies here in brisbane, and that way you will get warranty too.

Wow! I'm definately not getting those then!

Thanks for those posts guys! Seriously.

The HSD seem pretty good posted by 'delazy', yah?

I'm not too fussed over the price.. but I think 2k max. I guess I don't know what my money can get me for that price.

Yeah, suspsension's important, especially when it comes to the twists.. I think 2k would be my max..

*thinking*

If 2k is your max...don't worry about theses crappy taiwanese coilovers, and get a half decent set of coils...Heck...even some awesome shocks and springs would be perfect. (Depends if you know what your looking for though.)

Do some research as to what spring rates are helpful/to your needs...If you dont know what spring rates are...maybe do some research on that too!

Don't buy a set of coilovers because, "omg these ones are cheaper" or "sweet, <insert brand name here> coilovers y0!"

pick something that is suited to what your going to need them for, and if it won't be a dedicated track car, keep that in mind. Race tracks are 11tybillion times better then our roads.

i'd only think about buying HSD for cheepies, you can get used ones (well known brand) but you must make sure the damperners are alright, otherwise the cost of rebulding them will be almost the same as getting new ones. springs you can replace to suit your set up

depends
Post #14

True. Well yeah, I'll have to read up on spring rates. That'll be a good start.

Well, it won't be a dedicated track car. A daily driver really.. but ultimately I'm wanting a good suspension system that'll keep me in contact with the road, and give a good dead-on turn.

I'm not sure if I'm making much sense by how i've put it..

well, if its mostly for street then you may as well go a brand like TEIN because they aren't too expensive, and you can change the damper settings and ride height.

talk to some of the guys from ozhonda.com they will tell you what the best setup would be.

Yeah, trying to register at ozhonda, but my email address seems to be blocked. I contacted the admin yesterday, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

if you buy them through an authorised dealer like Fulcrum, you wont get screwed over. its when you buy cheap ones from a small seller or off ebay that you get screwed. TEIN are very good for what you get. my friend has some in his 32 and he has abused them for about a year now and they are still running fine. dont order them from overseas or over the net, you should always inspect suspension your self in person, other wise you are asking to be stuffed around.

do some research, find your options, make a decision based on what you find. simple as that really.

Are you only using it for the street or will you ever take it to the race track?

Personally I would suggest going to see a suspension specialist and explain to them exactly what you will be doing with the car.

Personally I think with those D2 especially the front rate is far too high. Especially for street use.

As most of the fun you will be having are on fairly horrid roads you will want a fair bit of travel in the suspension. In my experience most cars with coilovers end up being too firm and chattery on rough road.

I would suggest going to Accurate Suspension or someone like that.

you drive a honda, get yourself some Spoon coilovers.

For that sort of money you would probably be able to get some base spec Japanese coilovers ...

Again ... go to Hipower Racing with your budget and he will sort you out with some good gear for your Honda
