2JZ GTE = turbo supra
2JZ GE = non turbo supra + toyota crown

1JZ GTE = ???
1JZ GE = toyota crown

RB26DETT from turbo skyline and the one they drop into mustang in tokyo drift
RB25DET R33 skyline ( i think?? )

i would go for the 1JZ GTE

go the 1jz mate, VERY tuff engine, 2.5L single turbo straight 6, would be very nice in a merc, 2jz's(3.0L twin turbo straight 6, will take over 550hp on standard internals and block easy) are better but they cos more than twice as much :/ if you want a tough, reliable engine any of the two would be excellent

even tho the 2jz is better than 1jz but if you look at the petrol price these day... i still prefer the 1jz...

the 1jz can still make lots of power on stock internals with just basic bolt ons.

i have always wanted to do this to an older model merc! 1jz is your best option imo...gives you performance on a tighter budget.

have you thought about a vg30ett, 1jz will own it in every respeckt but would be a nice conversion, psi999 has one in his r31 and is making stacks of power smile.gif

well its all food for thort.

i heard somewhere that a bmw m3 gearbox fits the merc 300D so it should also fit the 190E...
didnt plan on performance for this car, but if the engine gets much worse and i hafta consider a new one i may aswell put some power under the hood. and if the m3 box fits, thats a 6speed sport box in a 1984 merc tongue.gif
anyway, thanks for your suggestions guys.

I'd assume that you know, but just to make sure, you do realise that none of the above options will bolt straight in don't you? They will require custom engine mounts and wiring, possibly a custom sump, and you will most likely need to swap the gearbox for one that was originally fitted to the engine you put in as well, meaning custom or modified gearbox crossmember and tailshaft as well.

If you're just looking for a cheap way out, an engine conversion is not it. Even with the inflated prices of European car parts, I'd be surprised if you could do the engine conversion for anywhere near the price you could just have the current engine fixed for, even if you do basically all the work yourself.

On the other hand, if you do decide to go ahead, I think it's a great idea. An old school Merc with modern power is very cool in my books, I just don't want to leave you with the possible impression that it's a simple and relatively cheap thing to do.
